I'm thinking of buying a computer for stepmania. I guess the cheapest would be a xbox and modchip, but I've read on these pages that there are a few bugs in that system still. Would it be better to buy a cheap PC (like the lowest cost Dell = dimension 2400 $329 w/o monitor) and some sort of video board with s-video out?
I'm basically wondering if anyone has an idea on how well such a cheap PC would do = it comes with 256 MB Ram, an 80 GB drive, and a celeron processor 2.4 GHz. If SM would just suck on such a cheap machine, then it's not worth the increased price, compared to an XBOx
thanks

A friend of mine put Stepmania on his modded XBox. He says it's a huge hassle, since he has to rename all the files since the XBox doesn't like to read long file names (I'm not entirely sure, that's what he said) I could imagine that would get quite tedious.

StepMania would have no problem at all running on that. I have a friend who plays it just fine on his 900 MHZ with 256 megs of RAM and a Radeon 9000.

i renamed my whole library of songs (1000) in about 15 mins there are programs out there that you can use to rename whole directories and such and makes the process very easy. and was worth the time to have all of the songs available on my xbox
