Okay, I don't know if any of you have ever been to Six Flags over Texas in Arlington, Texas, but there is a machine there that is so completely bootlegged, and they are profiting off of it. Apparantly they bought an empty or broken DDR cabinet, put a PS2 in it, and hotwired the mats to the PS2.

The thing is, they didn't even do a good job. The up arrow on the 1st player mat dosen't work, and the right arrow on the 2nd player mat dosen't work. (Or vice versa, I can't remember.) Anyway, it ripped me off, and I found the other cabinet in a different arcade that was legit.

I have tried contacting Konami, but they haven't replied to me yet. Your thoughts on this?

First off. Most legitimate arcade mixes are bootlegs (especially ones after 4th and 5th mix).
Seccond off. Namco is the company that made this thing popular. Arcades that have them are rare, just ignore them. (Konami atleast makes SOME money off of these, unlike bootleg DDR extremes).

If the machine you're talking about is what I think it is, Indeed, these things are pieces of crap. I can't remember when exactly it happened, but they first showed up at Namco arcades. Someone convinced a higher-up at Namco to get it, saying it was the "newest version of DDR" or something like that, and they popped up in at least a few arcades across the country. The pads aren't hacked to work on PS2, they're actually PS2-compatible P.O.S. TX-2000 metal pads set inside the stage. The whole machine is terribly made. Apparently, it has a bunch of sharp edges on it, too. I recall seeing pictures of people who had sliced their fingers open on the machine somehow. That, more than anything, is probably what prompted Namco to get rid of them. As others have said, they're rare. Just ignore it. In a matter of time, probably no more than a few days, the machine will probably be ready for the scrap heap anyway since these things pretty much self-destruct under normal use.

Tomo_kun- I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, this is a genuine question. Do you think Konami really makes money off of this from the sale of the game? Given all the other shoddy, illegitimate characteristics of the machine, I'd hardly be surprised if the copy of DDR in these things was just an illegal copy running on a modded PS2.

Well it wouldnt surprise me that the easiest way to make it is to just put in a legitimate copy.

A modded PS2 would cost about as much as a legal copy and a regular PS2.

There are bootlegs ALL over the place. I don't think Konami cares, and if it doesn't affect gameplay, most players don't either.

Just locking because you can post about bootlegs in general in the Arcade games forum, or about that particular machine in the regional forum.
