Modded Gamestop Dance Pad Annoyances

im kinda annoyed with my modded soft pad cause the problem is i cant feel where i am on the pad. i tried putting cardboard over the X,O,triangle and square buttons and the center, but my foot sometimes got i lil bit under tha cardboard and the packaging tape started losing its stickyness so the cardboard started coming off >.< im thinking of using duct tape to tape down 3/4 inch pieces of wood(paricle board) on the non arrow buttons but im afraid ill kill the sensors in the pad and the wood will be too thick. i dont feel like having to go to home depot again. if i can use the 3/4 inch particle board should i use duct tape of what?

put the cardboard over THE ARROWS, and press down on the tape real good, my cardboard arrows haven't died yet.
