About a month. Some people do it in a few days, others never even get that far. Depends on so many factors, not the least of which is how much you actually like the game. _________________

Took me 4-5 months to pass up to low 9 footers. Problem was mostly not enough arcade play time, not much song variety. _________________

It depends what "confidently" means here.
I stopped failing 9 foot songs about 5 months into DDR.
I stopped failing 10 foot songs in about a year.
I can pass any ITG 12 as long as I'm warmed up.
I'm still working on passing the ITG 13's consistently. _________________

It took me about 10 days to get to many 8 footers, and a month to play 10s and get halfway without failing.
But I started heavy with easy songs such as:
A
V
R3
CSFIL
LLS
and this may be odd, I thought Max 300 was fairly easy.
What I usually do before I play a song I am having trouble with is at home, I move my feet around randomly to the beat of the song to even see if I have enough energy for it. Then I study the stepcharts (Mainly the 1/8ths parts), then I watch videos (reboman and Jiri's Max 300 videos, where you can see the foot work) Then I go out and play it as my last song on the dollar I spend. Helped me alot. _________________

Ah, maniac, good ol' Konamix. Took me 2 or 3 months. Figure out what you need to work on. Arrow reading, endurance, speed, then choose songs to practice that a bunch. _________________

These are more or less accomplishments, which would go in the DDR Gameplay forum. Locked. _________________
