I recently came into a 700mhz AMD server with 512mb of pc2700, a crummy 128mb video card, and a sb audigy2.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience running sm on a pc similar to this, if so what OS did you find worked best? |

I was thinking about running redhat, i dont know much about linux, but im sure i could figure everything out. The only question i have is, does anyone know how the arcade build drivers are? because i want to use RC2's light feature. |

Your going to have to use the arcade build on windows for pad lights.
however, lights on the machine its self are supported under linux IIRC _________________

That's plenty of machine to run Stepmania. Even on my Windows laptop, Stepmania runs fine with less: ~650MHz Pentium 3, 256MB RAM, an S3 SavageIX on-board video card (no clue about video RAM), slow laptop hard drive, and on-board ESS Maestro3 sound. Some background videos/animations cause a drop in framerate and there can sometimes be a bit of a skip when it switches from one video to another, but with videos turned off it's flawless and with videos turned on it's still pretty good. I'm even running it at 800X600 (the maximum the video card allows).
Does anybody know the system specs of the ITG BoXoRs? They run Stepmania just fine with very high-quality background videos, and yet I doubt there's too much computer horsepower there because it simply isn't needed. _________________

An ITG boxor consists of the following components:
AMD 2600 (guestimated, but we know its an AMD athlon)
I disagree with that move due to heat problems
512 megs of dual channel DDR memory.
Some onboard graphics, probably Geforce 4 MX
A really fast hard disk. _________________

I was able to get SM working just fine on this old HP Pavilion:
500 MHz Celeron Processor
64 MB RAM
Intel 810 integrated graphics (sucks like no other)
Windows 98SE
I experienced absolutely no problems, but that probably would have been a different story had there been bg movies... |

I was able to get everything except celshading working on a p2 233, 352 mb of ram, Voodoo 3 or Geforce 4 MX (I used both during this cycle) Under Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
poopy stepmania will run on anything, especialy if THAT plays BG movies. _________________
