I don't know if this has been done before, so don't get mad big grin
Has anyone been able to make stepmania running using both ddr songs and itg, so that when you select a song from the ddr group, it uses normal ddr arrows, timings, and grades with letters, and when you use itg, it uses those arrows, timings, and percentage?
Anyone do this short of 2 installs of SM?
(Each group should have its own stepmania.ini) |

I've heard discussions of the possibility of doing something like this, but right now I don't think it's an option.
I'd forget about having it automatically switch themes/noteskins/configurations just by picking a different song -- no feature anything like that exists, so don't hold out too much hope.
What might be slightly more realistic is something that I've heard people propose before: have a "Groove" game type (along with the built-in "Dance" & "Pump" types) that would automatically switch over to the correct theme, noteskin, and configuration settings. That'd only take a quick trip through the main menu. All the songs would still show up, but you could voluntarily restrict yourself to those for the game you're currently simulating.
I saw this shot down by a Stepmania developer on another forum, saying something like "In The Groove itself uses the 'Dance' game type in Stepmania, so there's no need to make a different game type for it." Which is true, there's no NEED for it, but since DDR and ITG use different timing windows, grading systems, etc., it'd be nice to switch between them more easily. It wouldn't really be a new game type, just a copy of the Dance gametype with different settings.
Another hypothetical future feature that would be cool: maybe someday they'll allow themes the option of including their own partial stepmania.ini which would be read & used in addition to the main stepmania.ini while you were using that theme (with the theme's settings taking precedence). That way, you wouldn't have to change gametypes or anything -- you could just switch to your ITG theme, and its stepmania.ini would be loaded, which would include the ITG timing windows, grading system, default noteskin, etc. Then when you switched back to a regular theme, those settings would go back to their regular DDR-like values.
But unfortunately I don't think anything like this is possible now. |
