Can't compare to PitterPandas sweet modifications found here, but I've written my own guide for those of us with lower cost materials and no staple gun.

The guide can be found here (scroll down the page). Comments or critique welcome, hope some of you find it useful.

(Apologies for the off-site hosting, but I've nowhere else to put it).

My guess was right duck tape and wow does it look like a POS!!!
And I found something much better...

http://www.extremespin.com/tommy/ddr/

I mean covering a dance mat with that much ductape would make it to slippery. its just better covering it with something then tape it down...

That modded mat looks pretty good as well.

Mine is covered with something, clear sheeting - with tape on top of that to hold it in place. I'll admit my latest one has used a lot of tape, but I've been using duct-goodness like this for years with no slippiness problems.

The way you phrase your reply, it sounds like it was possible for there to be something wrong with the miracle-material that is duct tape!

I suppose you could use some of that new-fangled clear duct tape if you wanted to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the duct tape. Are staple guns really that expensive, though?

The only problem with a soft pad mounted to a board is moving the thing. Have you ever wanted to move it to a different room or house. It's very bizzare.

Wouldn't mind taking opaque floor covering (or what ever you put on top of your soft mat ) and recreating the symbols on top of it. That way you can use all knid of crap under the protective layer to make your pad comfortable for you and stable. If you can't do graphics design (or draw for crap) you can do what I call "wing it" and leave it blank. It makes doubles a true test of the dancer's 6th sense. In other words where the heck are you on the pad? Yea... Mine is blank. Personally I have used a piece of leather from and old truck bed top thingy. It buttons on the bed's rim and looks like a covering. It's really strong and slip resistant. It makes the pad look completely blank. The only reason I know which way is the damned cord.
