Is your band ready to star in a video game? RedOctane wants to put your band's best rock song in the upcoming game Guitar Hero. The winning song will actually be playable in the game alongside songs made famous by such artists as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, Boston, The Donnas, Black Sabbath, The Ramones, White Zombie, and Jimi Hendrix! Hurry and submit your song entry by August 1st 2005!
Even if you're not in a band yourself, if you know someone who is, be sure to let them know so that they can have a shot at being featured in Guitar Hero! _________________

Looks like this contest is for very professional bands with money. The band I was the lead singer for would have stood a chance if only we had the money. There's my heads up to anyone who was getting very very giddy about this contest. _________________

You guys should definitely put in the Trigun theme. Or someone should play it. I would, but I have no bass/drums player. _________________

Who? RO? Harmonix? The bands who want the free publicity? You can't sell out if you're not being paid! DDR gets free music, too, from bands and individuals that just want the publicity. Musicianship trials rock IMO. |

Well depends on your style of music... I guess for soft rock musicians it wouldn't really be selling out.
For like hardcore stuff or post-hardcore stuff it would be, and that's what my band plays. Only why would they want one of our songs anyway? |

Yay, a chance to give away my, normally paid for, music for free. Then everyone will hear my wonderful free sounds and download my CD for free off of NetZero, the free internet. Even the homeless can jam out to my free music sensation! The free public Liberary will be full of the free tunes of my free songs. Woot, this must be the big time, I have finally made it! _________________

I see. I guess if you had to change your style of music in order to get accepted then that would be selling out. And they do specify 'rock' in sumission guidelines. |

for hardcore stuff bands do it too, just not as many oppertunities. welcome to the music industry, you obviously have no idea how it works, so heres some insight on when i did some work with a few large artists. (the two larger ones were Lacuna Coil, and Ministry. im sure youve heard of the later, since they are fairly heavy.
bands get big by giving stuff away. for instance, lacuna coil got theyre song in the movie Alien VS Preditor, they first had to pay the movie productions, then they had to pay to have theyre entire bus painted to advertise the movie, that painting in its self is a few thousand dollars, but what did it do for them? well it first got theyre song on the music soundtrack, so it got many new people listening to them, second, it got them recongition in the music industry. if you think selling out is getting thousands of more fans, then really, get the hell out of this industry, because your working in the wrong area.
and i could type more, but i pulled a 14 hour work day today so im going to bed.
if you respond with a legit. post, ill be happy to go into more detail.
oh, and exuse my spelling, lack of sleep. _________________

How about a band that doesn't have nationwide recognition? Couldn't they use some attention or press? You're only providing one song, not a full album. It's just a taste you're giving people. RedOctane isn't asking you to fork over your souls or anything - that's the RIAA's job.
I think it's a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a pet band that they'd like to get off the ground, or a local act that could use more exposure. But sure...go on telling everyone that they should be ostriches and avoid opportunity like the plague. I'm sure the smart ones will ignore you and weigh the pros and cons for themselves. _________________
