Saying ITG is the same as DDR is like saying Pump it up is like DDR.
Hopefully that makes sense. _________________

No it isn't. Pump it up's arrow lay-out is completely different. |

In The Groove is a 4-arrow dance game, like DDR. However, it is made by Roxor, a separate company, and is a different series. Question answered. _________________

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

Wow, is that the best you can come up with? That Konami didn't make it, I think that's pretty obvious. |

ITG is the exact same gameplay as DDR, and you know it. The fact that you obviously like ITG better doesn't have to permeate every post you make here.
Next time, try this: Johancrowind wrote: | They have the exact same gameplay, but I greatly prefer the songs and customization found in ITG to what I've seen in DDR. However, I have an open mind and am perfectly willing to try a new DDR if one is ever produced and judge it fairly. Oh, and NeonFM is lame. |

Oh, Cutriss, you card!
Ya, itg is basically ddr with a whole new style: different artists, more gameplay features, and all the bells and wistles and horns you could ever want. Most ddr players regard itg as being for experts only, due to some of its insanely hard songs, but I have found it accomadating to all skill levels. |

Someone is *NOT* a Thomas Howard fan, or his song Girlz Buttz.

Obviously not, since that's what was asked. "Is DDR the same as ITG or another DDR game?" _________________

Read the stickied thread up top. It's more in depth than what these people are saying. _________________

DDR has 10 footers. ITG had 13 footers. DDR has an 2D look. ITG has an 3d look. Itg has more mods you can chose for your game. DDR songs last around 1:30-1:40 ITG songs are about 2 mins long... if not longer. _________________

Shame the gameplay is even closer to DDR than ITG is, layout be damned. O2Jam doesn't have a turntable, does that mean it's nothing like IIDX? |

No. Keep your stupid fanboyism out of the ITG forum. If this is your mentality, stay out of the ITG forum. |

Well...thanks for answering my question. I wasen't expecting that many responces. Even though alot of people seem to say they don't like it, I'd still want to try it myself to get my own opinion of it. Who knows, I might like it better. |

Call BS all you like, this is just my opinion, specifically that I think it's silly to call ITG a straight DDR ripoff and hail pump as a totally new game.
Pump and DDR both have up scrolling arrows which move towards grey targets, mostly in 4th beat but also 8th and 16th and above. Both grade you with a different word depending on how on time your step was, and at the end all your steps are totalled up and you are given a letter grade in descending order depending on how good you are. Both games have arrows you have to hold, a mode where one player spans two pads, music preview before you actually play a song, and modifiers that let you change how the arrows scroll. This is off the top of my head.
ITG has all this in addition to arrows you're not meant to hit and now arrows you have to constantly hit, a more interactive 2P mode, nonstops with changing mods halfway through, consideration given to which mods qualify for ranking, a more accurate way of measuring up scores, score screenshot taking, mods which actually change the step pattern or do more than change the speed the arrows move and the ability for players to enter unlocks.
Despite what I've just said I actually agree with you, Jake, but hopefully I've made the point that the distinction isn't as clear cut as the "PUMP = ORIGINAL ITG = RIPOFF" folks would have you believe. |

Pump It Up is actually very similar to DDR in terms of gameplay. I first played Pump It Up months ago, for a couple hours, when I was still in Light mode on DDR. Just last week, I got to play Pump It Up for the second time, and after taking a couple of songs to re-adjust to the foot positions, I discovered that I was MUCH better at it than the last time I had played -- everything I'd learned in the past 3 months of DDR transferred nicely into Pump. The first time, I mainly did 2's and 3's in Normal mode; the second time a few months later I was able to easily do 5's and 6's in Hard mode, all because I'd dumped a thousand bucks into various DDR and ITG machines between the two times. The alternate arrow arrangement & addition of an extra panel doesn't take much time at all to get used to, and once you know where your feet go the gameplay is basically the same. |
