I know this is an adapter question but i couldnt find any help. I have spliced my Xbox cord to a usb but on the controller there is an extra yellow wire i have no match for on the usb. What does this wire do and how do i get the pad to work correctly and say its not malfunctioning. I am running windows xbox and i could find an adapter. Do i need some program or file to get it? I remember hearing about it but couldnt find it

I have made my own USB adapter for my pad and it works fine. Just make sure all the wires are soldered together good and not touching other wires and it should work fine

Maybe I should post this in the adapters thread. If so I appologize in advance. I have a simular but slightly different situation on my hands. I recently came across a Level Six Dance Performance (Model Xbox-638) X box pad. Im attempting to connect it to a win2k system with a USB to Xbox adapter from computergeeks.com(http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=PX-AD01&cat=CON) Im using stepmania 3.9 rc3 for my software. When I attached the adapter and plugged in the pad to the PC windows picked it up right away. Its setup as an 8 button Xbox controller. When I tested it in the control panel > Gaming options. Most of the pads work ( start , back , A , B , X , Y )
However the ones that dont work are the arrow pads ( kinda important to play the game ! ) Can anyone suggest a way to get this to work or suggest a place to get drivers?

You all need to get the latest version of XBCD And check your wiring.

If all goes well your system should say:

"New Hardware Detected: XBOX DDR"
"New Hardware Detected: Generic USB Hub"
"New Hardware Installed: Your hardware is installed and ready to use"

At this point your set, Stepmania will even map the buttons for you.

Alright now we have a different situation.. Ive finally upgraded to XP on the same box (why havent I upgrade sooner? Long story ... dont ask!) Anyway I attempted to get the same pad to work in Xp SP1 and I can install the XBCD package , but it wont allow me to update the driver to XBCD DDR pad driver from the same site. Getting message "this location does not include information about your hardware" Please help
