I am changing steps in notepad that were originally created using the dancing monkey program. I am using stepmania to play them, but I wanted to know if I need to make changes in both the .sm and .dwi files or if I can just make them in the .sm file.

You could make them in just the .sm file, though I think you may want to remove the .dwi file just in case. However, I think that, if anything doesn't match up between the .dwi and the .sm, Stepmania goes by what the .sm file says anyway.

Okay, let me simplify that.

You can make them in just the .sm file. Do you mind if I ask why you're using Notepad instead of the built-in editor that Stepmania has, though? No offense.

I thought that only came up if you played that same file in DWI. Didn't it get fixed in later SM releases anyway?

Thanks for the response. I use sm editor at home (and I have never had a problem with it not working properly), but I was editing at work at my desk and I usually use notepad to do that because it is silent. and yes I have thought about turning down volume or turning it off but I like to play the song in the editor when I use it and I also listen to internet radio at work and dont really wanna shut the sound off. Notepad is just the avenue I use in those situations otherwise I prefer the sm editor.

RC2 did it for me. *shrugs* I don't use DWI.

What's this Phantom Freeze business you're talking about then?
