Before I even begin this post let's get the obvious statements of bias out of the way. I'm the mod of the ITG forum, I spend exorbidant sums of money organizing tournaments - obviously I'm not a disinterested observer. Sorry to disapoint you.
Without further adieu, here's the review:
Roxor and Andamiro absolutely dominate with this release, which completely replaces ITG1 and takes over magnificently from where it left off. If there was doubt about another year of content from the In the Groove franchise, that doubt has been erased.
The thing that first grabs you about the mix is the music - there are some great songs on ITG2. No Princess, The Message, Fleadh Uncut. There are a couple sore spots - but nothing as bad as Normal. The music is lighter then the ITG1 music, and alot of it is really honest to goodness danceable.
The stepcharts are again extremely innovative and original, including many things I would have never thought of. I don't mean just rolls, which are actually really fun and well used, but alot of their step-work. Sweet World, We Know What to Do, Tsalm Pilot, Baby Don't You Want Me, Fleadh Uncut. Although there are some bum stepcharts, and some that are obviously just hard for the sake of being hard, it's a solid set.
The dedicated cabinet, oh my gosh. Oh man. I can't even describe it, it's the most gorgeous thing ever. We bought a Jessica Alba shirt and put it next to it to balance out the image. It's so perfect, the colors are so awesome, the screen is so crisp, and whatever they did to the arrows - I don't know if they made them smaller or leveled them or what - it feels a hundred times better. Way to ruin DDR machines for me guys.
Survival Mode is actually interesting and usefull training, and some of the marathons are so awesome. That mod in Driven, where the arrows freeze and the castings come down, had about eleven simultaneous tongues hitting the ground.
THANK YOU FOR DEFAULT 1.5X WE WILL NEVER HAVE TO LISTEN TO WHINY ANTI SPEED MOD GARBAGE AGAIN!!
I have exactly one complaint with ITG2: there should have been a fourteen. That's it, everything else is perfect.
A good couple preview songs might be here, used with permission just for this thread with no simfile:

If you're just trying to pass it, it's not quite 14 material, but if you want to full-combo or, god forbid, FA on it... lord help you.
And who knows, there are a lot of unlocks and we don't know much about them this time around. There could easily be a 14 squirreled away somewhere. _________________

Thus all speed mod whores cry out in joy (heh, jk)!
Actually, I think it makes sense to put 1.5 default, due to the increasing density of stepcharts if people play on 1x they'll probably be overwhelmed. It's more or less saying, "you need this, trust us".
I do think it's a good point where the developer more or less tells you what's accepted though. One of the reasons I'm strict 1x on DDR is because the series started with it, and we think that once speed mods came out on MAX everyone whored them and became dependant, so MAX2 threw in Oni mode which forces you on 1x ("pure" gameplay). Had you been allowed to use speed mods in oni courses, a different message would have bent sent.
This also goes for other games. As I've mentioned, everyone here is 1x, so when I try to get them to play other games like IIDX or GF/DM, they are always hesitant to use speed mods despite my telling them that it's much more difficult to play without them (there are also no restrictions to using mods in these games). I've never been anti-speed mod on ITG (or other rhythm games) for this reason. So, with ITG, they take the next step and put speed mod on default. It's a good example. _________________

It'd be too slow for a lot of players that I know. Heck, C500 is slow for us. _________________

The words are going through my head, yet I cannot understand them.
Won't that be a bit too quick for stuff above 300 BPM? |
Yeah you can change the speed to 1x, it's just that the game defaults to 1.5x normally, which invalidates the idiotic arguments people sometimes use.
Don't blame me for the camera shot, DJ Hush took it!

Yes, if you haven't figured it out already, I can now tell you what I could not on the original lawsuit thread. _________________

Yes, as soon as the "Pump It Up: in the groove 2" title was announced, I figured that was your angle, but I think you're mistaken if you think that will at all solve Roxor's legal woes with Konami over the "ITG1 Boxors and the use of Konami's patented cabinets without their permission" issue. All that is true now is that ITG2 has a dedicated cabinet that is not Konami's, so ITG2 doesn't fall under the scope of Konami's current lawsuit against Roxor. Roxor will still have to face the music ultimately on the ITG1 problem. Correcting your actions after the fact does not erase what you have already done. Do you think that you can side-step robbing a bank if you go back later and make a legitimate withdrawl?
Also, as has been explained in several other places, this is a business partnership between Andamiro and Roxor as of right now. Andamiro does not own and has not acquired Roxor in whole or in part, period. Roxor is still an independent corporation, with no special legal or financial backing from Andamiro, and from Andamiro's point of view, why should it be any different? They really have the upper hand in this arrangement.
Oh, and just to clarify, does "Pump It Up" actually appear anywhere other than on the cabinet, i.e. actually on the title screen in-game? _________________

Is that the thing that does:
-EXCELLENT
EXCELLENT-
- before excellent meaning you were too early and - after excellent meaning you were too late? _________________
