Would you consider DDR targeted towards a certain gender? Do you seem to find more males or females playing the game?

I see it as unisex, but it seems there are more males on this forum, and when I asked my friend he thought it was "girly."

So what do you think? At the arcades, do you tend to see more girls or boys playing?

I have seen an exactly equal amount of girls play DDR as guys. I would therefore assume it's a unisex game. Besides, it's the one game that both my sister and I enjoy.

In general, guys like the competition of the game, whereas the girls like the physical activity and the music. It's a lot more complex than that, but it's a simple explanation.

1. If there isn't already a sticky for this, there are about 285263847534 other threads for this topic.

2. It's a game. It's targeted at people. Not boys, not girls. People.

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

It can go either way. I mean sure you do see more guys playing but then again some those girls might be a lot better than you. Then again this could happen to anyone in any situation wheter they're male or female so whatever.

Feminine? Have you even SEEN Para Para Paradise? If that doesn't scream "males have to be in touch with their sexuality in order to be seen within a fifteen foot radius of this video game", I don't know what does. E15.gif

Both genders play it, but it's very male-dominated once you hit the serious playing ability. In general, girls tend to play at home and sometimes the arcades as a fun thing, guys tend to play to get better and compete with themselves and each other. Of course, there tends to be exceptions to the generalization, and you do see the casual guy player and the girls with dozens of SDG's and AAA's who can hold her own against the guys in tournaments.

Its unisex. If you say its girly and a guy is gay if he plays you should die.

This is retarded. Why does it matter if more guys play the stupid arrow stomping game than girls, and vice versa?

My girlfriend plays DDR/ITG, and she loves it.
Hell...I've dated four girls that played DDR...and this one is actually good...lol.

DDR is definitly for both sexes. Guys just tend to turn it into more of a sport/competition (the majority of guys that play anyway).

I have seen no sticky, and as far back as 6 pages, and most likely more if I decided to waste my time and check, there have been no similar threads. Although I am sure at more than one point there has been comparable threads, obviously it has not been a hot topic recently, so I have the right to start a discussion about it.

And, generalising all games to be targeted towards "people," and not specific to gender or age, is quite naive. All products have some sort of target audience/consumer. I only asked one's opinion to whom this may be. Just as well, I decided to ask whom do they see playing more, as to contradict, or follow their opinion.

Who was saying it mattered? It's just something to ponder and contribute your thoughts to, like any other thread in this forum.

And back towards the real point of the topic, I completely agree with Dj Sway.

Ive definitly seen more guys playing then girls. But i believe the game is for both. And that the guys turn it into the competitive game and the girls just play for fun i think.

I see an equal amount of boys and girls playing the game, but the vast majority of players on standard or above that I know are all boys. I'm one of four girls I know (personally) that can play any heavy.

Personally, i think it was first intended towards the feminine audience and not so much guys. But, i don't think they made the assumption guys are pretty competitive. Therefore, it looks like there's more guys than girls because we like the challenge. (i haven't seen any girls play trully..... maybe one on heavy... riiight.gif ... heavy playing girls rock nerd.gif )
