???Ignition pad wood mod???

I plan on getting a Ignintion pad of ebay. I want to know I plan to do the wood mod were you put the wood inside of the pad. People say ive seen to get the 6.0 because of the dense foam. Buuut if I do the wood mod does it matter what version I get since im going to put the wood in it? Im being a cheapass honestly at the moment I dont see the point of paying more for the dense foam if im just going to rip it out. Or am I missing something and do I need that hard foam cause it has to stay?
