Note I did not say ten commandments. There are 20 here.

I do not mean to be rude to God or any of his principles; this is simply for humorous purposes.

Note to Everyone
I have modified this list of what is now 20 Commandments. Some have been organized or modified, and five have been added, therefore commandment numbers referenced in the first 2 or 3 pages of posts may be incorrect. Since I believe after receiving suggestions that it is now complete, I have modified it and put it in such a format that it can be printed out and posted on your local machine. Print out what is between the two long lines of dashes. It seems to fit well on a single sheet of legal-size paper.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 20 DDR Commandments

General DDR Commandments

(1) DDR is thy game; thou shalt have no other games before it.

(2) Thou shalt not play cheap spinoffs of DDR, or create for thyself any likeness. (Thou shalt, however, feel free to make edits in Edit Mode on the home console versions.)

(3) Thou shalt not take the name of DDR in vain.

(4) Remember Bemani, to keep it holy.

Behavior of Players and Other General Behavior

(5) Honor those who are more skilled than thyself, for one day thou mayest end up playing with them.

(6) Thou shalt not kill newbies, for they know not what they do, and one day they mayest end up playing with you.

(7) Thou shalt keep thy dirty thoughts of the opposite sex to thyself.

(8) Thou shalt not steal thy fellow players' tokens or coins.

(9) Thou shalt not bear false witness about getting a AAA or other accomplishment, nor bear false witness against thy fellow player.

(10) Thou shalt not covet thy fellow player's DDR games; nor thy fellow player's boy- or girlfriend; nor thy fellow player's water; nor thy fellow player's AAAs, nor anything else that is thy fellow player's.

(11) Thou shalt not return both feet to the center metal panel after every step, lest thou shalt be ridiculed by thy superiors.

(12) Thou shalt not damage the machine in anger or perform moves of any kind which damage the machine, lest thou shalt be smitten.

(13) Thou shalt not utilize the bar for any purpose other than to play the game. Onlookers and passers by shall not touch the bar unless approved by the person(s) currently playing.

(14) Thou shalt not walk off the pad until either all thy songs are cleared or thou hast failed thy song. Effectively, thou shalt not leave the pad until thy game is over. This commandment shall only apply to playing the song, and shall not apply to freestyle.

(15) Thou shalt honor and obey coin lines, and thou shalt not take thy turn until thy coin comes up.

Audience and Nonplayer Behavior

(16) Thou shalt not shadow (pretend to play) without the player's permission.

(17) Thou shalt not utilize the second pad in any way without the player's permission. Thou shalt moreover not step on any part of either pad while a player is playing Doubles Mode.

(18) Thou shalt not step on a player's arrows, especially so if the player is playing on Heavy or Oni difficulty. If thou dost, thy feet shall most likely be trampled upon in the player's attempt to hit their own arrow. This shall not be the fault of the player, for after all, they paid for the game, and thus it is their job to step on the arrows.

(19) Thou shalt not walk between the player and the screen at any time, or otherwise purposely and knowingly distract the player. To do so is to invoke the wrath of the player.

(20) Thou shalt not attempt to hold a conversation with a DDR player while they are playing (as most players try to concentrate on the game). Thou shalt wait until between songs or after a game to talk. However, thou mayest cheer upon the DDR player for playing well, as well as applaud.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(For DDRFreak) <Dedicated to Spike> When on the DDRFreak forums, thou shalt read the FAQ.

Feel free to discuss these commandments, your likes, dislikes, or times you've seen people disobeying these commandments. I hope you had as much fun reading them as I did typing them.

Considering everyone at my arcade with any knowledgable skill has a massive ego to match it, do you have any idea how hard this is? disturb.gif

God never said his commandments were easy to follow.

Nor did I say these commandments would be. lol

I'll bet we've all seen infractions on these at one point or another. I can imagine the stories on infractions for #4, 6, 8, 11, 13 and 14.

Person Above Me Dedication for This Post
Person above me thinks those more skilled than him have an ego the size of the earth.

I predict the Person Below Me will be a moderator who will find this as funny as Phoenix, and will also see that it makes a good ruleset for DDR and will thus transform it into a sticky.

It seems like people born and raised in my area do. They don't even have to be more skilled than me to be an ass. Nearly everyone who visits or moves here is a good sport about everything, though.

Actual conversation with a native resident:

Hey yo, why don't we have a tournament-style match? I bet I can beat you!
Sure, why not?
First, some rules: Speed mods are allowed.
All right.
No ten-footers.
Wait a minute...
And no Cartoon Heroes! I can't beat that song.
But what's the--
All right, let's go!

*Ten minutes later*

I won! You suck, dude!

Yeah, you ought to try our arcade. There's plenty of sportsmanlike spirit here. disgust.gif

I wanted to post earlier, but I didn't want to ruin your "Person Below Me" prediction.

Should change the bar one too:
Thou shalt not use the bar for anything other than freestyling.

Don't even think about starting another bar usage discussion in here. That goes for everyone.

Shadowing... ::shudders:: This is my one, and only, mind you, annoyance when it comes to playing DDR. I could care less about bar-raping, bad freestyling, over-playing Dynamite Rave on light, etc. I never let people shadow me. It's only because they generally happen to get off beat and hit the pad too fast or too slow in correspondence to the arrows. Or they've never played the song before and they try and wing it. Translation: It's a big distraction.

In relation to the topic, though. Nice job with the commandments. E1.gif

Blaze: A t-shirt? Never thought of that. lol

Rislim & Madro: It's "Thou shalt not use the bar for anything other than its intended purposes" for a reason. We have more than enough people willing to argue over exactly what those "proper uses" are, so anything else I could've posted about it would've gotten a flame from somebody. This commandment is thus open for personal interpretation.

L1nK: Kinda goes with 11, but not really.

Blaze & DDR's Rage: Guilty here too. Hehe...

Zukin-Man: I actually concur. It should be blue. (Or at least match the color of that mix's logo, such as red for Max2 or green for Extreme.)

Phrekwenci: It might not be you, and it might take a couple days, a couple weeks, or 50 or more replies, but this will eventually become a sticky. I got a good feeling about it the moment I posted it, kinda one of those things you just know is gonna happen.

Person Above Me Dedication For This Post
Person Above Me sees t-shirts in his dreams every other night.
I predict the Person Below Me will print the commandments out and post them at his/her local arcade.
