I can't seem to get my SMLan to work. I've tried everything and it still won't work.

1.) Next time you find a problem, make sure you post the extensive amount of information that you posted here (this part is sarcasm).

2.) SMLAN is outdated. SMOnline is the new thing.

Well, SMOnline is the same thing as SMLan, and I'd prefer SMLan becuase I don't have to download SM again.

And I didn't know exactly what to post. I wanted to get instructions really. But...

Okay. I have at least two IP addresses. When connecting with my friend, she tried both of them, and neither worked. So, I thought maybe I could connect to her. I tried both of her IP addresses, and neither of those worked. I've tried it with another person, and it didn't work with them. I don't know what to do.

And BTW, this is probably what's causing it, but I don't really know, I am using DSL through a DSL modem router thingie.

*buzzer* Not quite. SMOnline is something completely different; basically the whole program has been reworked, and it's not exactly an official release by the SM Developers. And unlike SMLAN, you can do it on seperate speeds instead of high-speed only.

Here's a mini walkthough for SMLAN, since I had to connect to myself often for TF testing. First, a server must be created, and that's where you identify the first IP address. Then you and your buddies must connect to that IP address. First, create a server. Second, connect to server.

If you decide to update to SMO, don't intend to use current themes with it. All but three or four are completely incompatible and it's going to be a long time before that's changed.

No IP is identified. For some reason, I can connect to myself if I use my own IP address, not 127.0.0.1. Other people can't though.

If the ip address is 192.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x, then you aren't giving the correct IP address to your friend on the other side of the internet. You need to use your external IP. whatismyip.com is a good source for finding your external IP easily. Also, you'll need to set up port forwarding on your router if you use one to connect to the internet. You'll need for forward TCP/UDP port 8765 to your local ip address. To find your local IP address open a command prompt and type "ipconfig" without the quotes.

It depends on what router you have. On D-Link routers it's called "Virtual Server" and is under the "Advanced" tab. On Linksys routers, I think it's called "Port Forwarding" and is in the advanced options.
