ok, im think about getting a road bycicle to ride with my dad on the roads this summer. It seems like pushing the pettals repetitively would help ALOT with DDR type stamina. does anyone else do this kind of biking (or other similiar kinds) and if so will it help with DDR?

Learning proper spelling and grammar will help you with DDR.

Biking will work too.

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

It might help if you are riding up a 90 degrees hill. haha
But really,,, it might help if you get like a mountain bike and turn the tension on the pedals all the way up so it makes it tough to pedal fast.

Even light cycling will help build stamina and muscle. Lifting a heavy weight in a short burst won't do anything much for your strength, but lifting a smaller weight (or cycling at a middle gear) consistantly over a long enough period of time will.

It's amazing to me how seriously people take this game. E15.gif Once I started fencing (the swordplay type), my leg strength when up a bit. Constantly being near-crouching was very tiring.

I am an avid mountain biker, and I commute to work (20 miles/day) by bike, and I have discovered that biking both helps and hurts your DDR skills. It helps almost immeasurably with stamina, speed, and strength (depending on how hard/often you ride). However, it seems like I have to work harder to keep my PA strong. My theory is that because biking builds the legs so much stronger than any other part of the body, the core (which gets used for turning while playing DDR) can't keep up to what the legs are doing, in addition to the mental challenge of learning to manipulate so much more leg muscle and associated speed, strength, et cetera in the highly controlled fashion required to PA.

And, even if it doesn't help, GET THE BIKE ANYWAY!!!!

How does it not help you? Don't you have full control over your body?

Imagine, if you will, the effect of wearing heavy shoes for an extended time, and then running immediately after you remove them. You get an unexpected burst of speed because your mind is expecting your muscles to output a certain amount of energy. However, your muscles, expecting to counteract the effects of the additional weight, output considerably more energy. Consider also the effect of jumping on a trampoline for a time and then immediately attempt to jump as high as you can on terra firma. You will only get about 2 inches off the ground because your mind's expectations do not match the reduced output that your muscles will give.

Likewise, consider that I play DDR approximately twice a week, usually for a couple of hours. I bike, as I stated earlier, at least 80 miles per week, usually closer to 130. Biking works very specific muscles in the legs, and nothing else, so cyclists are notorious for having huge legs and skinny, underdeveloped everything else (arms, core, neck, etc...). What this means is when one in this condition plays DDR, the legs will output more energy than the mind is expecting them to, and the rest of the body will be unable to keep up. What this means is, although you will have incredible stamina, strength, and speed, you will also suffer a noticable loss of control of that speed (PA). In my case, it manifests itself in the form of about 10-30 extra greats on any given song. Now, if I played more DDR, I could easily counteract that effect, but since I am a poor, poor bastard who's facing the elimination of his entire department (read-job), not to mention that the weather is finally not pure and utter poopy here in MI, that's not going to happen for some time.

Now, NO ONE should take this to mean that biking will hurt your DDR game. If one wants to talk about weight loss, let's talk about the 10 pounds I lost playing DDR, and then we'll compare that to the 70 I lost riding my bike (oh, and the 5 inches of waist, as well). What I do mean to say is that although you will notice a huge improvement in stamina, speed, and strength, you might notice your PA take a bit of a hit. The bottom line is that EVERYONE SHOULD GET A BIKE, and then RIDE IT A LOT! Trust me, it's worth it. By the way, the numbers I mentioned earlier were over 1 year of time.

You may also notice that you don't have to type -XP on the end of your posts. 1. Your posts are already labelled with your name, and 2. You have a Signature for that purpose.
