Dan's Design on making a ddr pad for your PC
alright, for all those people who wanna use stepmania or dwi or whatever you prefer on your pc I build and tested a circuit that plugs right into your computer.
What I did was I bought/ found a cheap keyboard. Open it up and find the circuit board. Itshould only be about 1 inch wide and 2.5 inches long. I thought, this would be perfect if you are building a slim degish pad because the thing is only 1/4 inch tall.
Next you have to so some trial and error. Plug the keyboard circuitboard into your computer. USB/PS 2 works fine. Make sure it works before you try anything. You should see an IC chip in the centre of your circuit, ignore that. Focus on the 2 black or grey or white input things (I dont know the name)There should be a plastic printed circuit, very flimsey. Pull that out and be careful not to break anything. Next open stepmania (prefered) and go to Options>test input. Get 1 wire and put it on one of the Black/grey/white Input things and the other end of the wire onto 1 of the pins on the longer Input thing. You should see something like a letter or a number on yoru keyboard. You are trying to find: UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT ENTER ESCAPE and any other keys you want to use on your pad, control box.
This might be complicated, but I'll put some pictures from paint up because I dont got a cam.
Wright down the sequence where you find the UP DOWN LEFT ect...
This is waht i got:
UP: 5th from the right on the bigger input, 4th from the bottom of the smaller one.
Down: 3rd from the right, 2nd from the bottom
Left: 5th from the right, 2nd from the bottom
Right: 1st from the right, 2nd from the bottom
Enter: 2nd from the right, 3rd from the bottom
Escape: 9th from the right, 4th from the bottem
Yours might be different or the same, If you have any questions, just post here or at my forums at www.djdstuff.tk
I will be glad to help.
Hope this helps you people
