First off, I didn't know which forum this should go in. If we had a technical forum, I'd have thrown it there, but since this pertains to ITG, DDR, Arcade play, and Simulation, I'll let you Mods decide it's fate.

I want to know what would be the easiest (and preferably least-expensive) way to create an OpenITG/Stepmania cabinet from scratch that uses real arcade pads?

I've been contemplating purchasing a DDR Extreme cabinet on the cheap and throwing OpenITG onto it. My problem is that I don't understand what needs to be done to get a DDR Ex cab to run OpenITG/Stepmania. I imagine it involves gutting the existing machine, putting a PC in it with OpenITG/Stepmania, making sure all inputs from the pad and buttons register with the PC, and then making sure all output data from the PC gets sent to the appropriate parts of the machine (lights, speakers, etc). The part I'm completely confused with is how to get the pads (and everything else)to work with the PC.

These were my first thoughts, but I may be going about this all wrong. I really don't care what the final setup looks like, so long as it has real arcade pads, or something damn near identical to them. Anyone want to offer some suggestion or their wisdom?

I've already been there and found this thread on Upgradicabs (http://boxorroxors.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1291), but I'm asking about a DDR Extreme cab (or similar) without a Boxor unit in it. I don't know what is inside a standard DDR cab and sure as hell don't want to go purchase one without knowing what I will be required to do/buy/modify in order to get a functional, working OpenITG or Stepmania cab.

I meant ask at boxorroxors.net. This is not a tech site if you haven't noticed.

I suppose you're right. I've tried registering for the forums though, but every time I put in the "security code" thing in, it says I did it wrong. I hope the admin will get back to me eventually.

Btw, know any other good DDR-related "tech" sites I could check out and ask these kinds of questions on?
