I bought my CF awhile ago... ~ 30 months or so, used it a lot for the first 10 months. When i went to college, i didn't bring it with me and no one really used it. I've developed a sedentary lifestyle so i decided to get back into playing DDR some. About a week ago, i saw my down arrow wasn't really responding correctly, now i should have checked this forum first for problems with CFs. Looking at some posts now, i think i might have just needed to clean it, but i did not do that.
I let my uncle attempt to fix it. I'm not really sure what he did but he has managed to really screw this up. When i press on the up arrow it triggers the down button and the x button. The down button won't respond if my foot is on the up arrow, but besides that the down button is working ok...
He asked for electrical tape while he was working on it, and unscrewed the top and button arrow pads.
Any idea to what is causing the above problem?
If i try fixing it, is there a chance i could screw it up more? |

You can eliminate some possible causes by testing it out more thoroughly. I'm assuming you're just playing it on PS2. Plug it into stepmania if you can, and go to "test input".
On the PS2, if you don't disable the controller option in the options menu, circle, square, triangle, and cross will work as arrows. So disable that option, otherwise, in game when you step on cross (right next to the up arrow) it will trigger the down arrow. Now tell me, when you step on the "up" arrow does it still trigger up in the game? If not, then it seems like he just switched the wires from "cross" and "up"
I would suggest taking the pad apart so you can get a better understanding of what's going on. _________________

I think rewiring the CF with a soft pad circuit board might be easiest solution. |

oh yeah, some pics would help to us to give you some tips to fix your pad.
also, try to test the input panel by panel, you could use a tekken 2+ game on practice mode to do the test, it has a nice interface so you can see if there is some misfiring on the panels and so on.
there must be some wires that are touching each other so a rewiring would be a good option. try to isolate the problematic panels too. |
