hehe thanks for your offer but, no. I'm pretty retarded when it comes to following instructions, and I would probablly screw it up. It's best this way since they know what they are doing. |

It's kinda weird how I hear all these success stories of people buying Cobalt Fluxes and cleaning them once a year and getting nonstop AAA's on 9's and 10's, yet I clean mine once a month and it gives me pad shit all the time even on 7 footers. I got screwed out of a AAA on Kind Lady due to 2 bullshit greats, 2 pad almosts, and a pad boo. Keep in mind I cleaned the pad yesterday. And yet there are people who clean their CF's once a year getting AAA's on Max 300. What is this bullshit? |

Question: If I were to get a Cobalt Flux with a clear arcade mod, should I take out the metal brackets on the four corners of the center panel? Would it do any damage if I played without those on there? Judging by the online pictures it looks like the brackets would make it very hard to double-step or cheat on hands.
Yes, I already said I was getting a CF a while ago, but I couldn't get one without a bar, and blah blah it's a long story. |

So I got my flux over two years ago and for the past 8 months it has been sitting in my parents house while I've been at school. Now I'm back at home for winter break and the cf has disappointed me to say the least. At first, every arrow was being ridiculously sparratic in their firings and I had to stomp on all of them for anything to even happen. I figured a good cleaning was in need and that it had just gotten a bit dusty over time. However, after I cleaned it [thoroughly] the arrows are still testy.
Despite being annoying, I can deal with the occasional misfire of the left, right and back arrows, but the top arrow misfires nearly every time I hit it making it impossible to play. The only way I can *almost* guarantee it will work is if I center my foot exactly on the arrow and stomp. I don't think there is a problem with the wiring (but then again, I don't know exactly what its supposed to look like either). Also, I don't think the screws are too tight or anything.
I'm just annoyed, deprived of my dancin, and want my damn pad to work lol. _________________

Yes you can take off the brackets, the only downside is you leave the corners of the inner panels exposed. _________________

I'm just annoyed, deprived of my dancin, and want my damn pad to work lol. | How exactly did you clean the pad? I used to not understand how the pad actually works (I thought I did!) because I had not taken it apart all the way to see. What matters is the electrical contact between the top sheet metal and the bottom metal. The plastic panel has nothing to do with performance. When you pull the top sheet metal away from the bottom metal (it has 4 velcro circles to hold it down), you should see an oxidation effect on the bottom metal and the top sheet metal due to sparks that occur when electrical contact is made. This is difficult to get off, but if you want a truly good electrical connection you should use fine or medium grade sandpaper and rub till the metal looks like your mother's silverware. You will notice dark colored stuff come off which you should wipe off with a paper towel or old shirt. Next, you may notice that the top sheet metal is bent downward (toward the bottom metal), so you could bend it the other way to help reduce double stepping due to the bending of the metal.
I did the above procedure, and my cobalt flux went from horrible to letting me get 300+ combos. I've passed a couple 13's on it now, as well as many 12's and 11's.
The cobalt flux design is so simple that you can really use it and use it and use it, and with the proper cleaning occasionally, it won't wear out. _________________

I know, I agree. I think the CF needs a new pad design. I wish they made their pads with arcade sensors, my biggest complaint with them is the sensitivity problems and also I have the arcade mod which feels nothing like the arcade at all. |

I have this EXACT same scenario as this guy, and I was wondering if there are any simple mods I can do? I'm thinking of just tearing the thing apart and put in a riptide design sensor. |

that's why i got mine! lol. should be arriving in a few days. i have a question tho, i've read about people unscrewing the panels and saying they messed up the sensitivity for good. do you have any advice on making sure not to mess anything up while cleaning this pad, cause i don't want to have to send this back for any reason u know? thanks |

|
|
1. I'm in Canada. Anyone know if I'll have to pay import taxes or customs fees if I order Cobalt Fluxes? I'm going to get two, for doubles, which is already more than I can really afford, so I don't want to get smacked upside the head with a nasty surprise.
2. I play doubles. Should I get the modded pads? I can't decide. I was using two RedOctane Ignitions before (until recently, when one of the pads crapped out and was unfixable). That setup was awesome because the tactile feedback of the raised arrows let me know that I was still where I was supposed to be on the pads. I'm thinking having the raised corners / center might help with that on the Fluxes, but I'm not sure.
Thanks, everybody, for any help! |

i have 2 cobalts and they work absolutely fine. the trick is to clean it often. well, more like once in 3 months or so. once you get some pad poopy, just take it apart and start cleaning it. it works fine _________________

I have a quick question. If I buy a new Cobalt Flux with the arcade mod, can it be used to play PIU (so long as I get the pump control box)? I have a used CF I bought from someone, and it is arcade modded. However, the back two buttons (the Triangle and Square buttons) don't work, and I was wondering if this was normal if you mod it. _________________

I purchased a cobalt flux dance platform about 2 years ago. It worked fine, but then I stopped playing for maybe a year and a half. When I recently pulled it out, cleaned it, and plugged it in, the buttons on the pad were not registering hits. However, the two buttons on my control box are. I would really like to fix my pad. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? |

There is no "sensitivity" on a CF; if the top sheet metal touches the bottom metal, it's on. If the top is not touching the bottom, then it's off. The biggest issue is double stepping when the sheet metal on top gets bent due to hundreds of thousands of steps.
Anyway, the CF is fine for most people. Unless you're really going for high scores, then you're best off just going to an arcade. You can still 1-3 star with a CF in excellent condition, though. Here is a video of me playing an easy 14 on a 4 year old V1 cobalt flux. It's STILL going strong:
