Thanks dude. I'm just lucky I got these on sale (original price is $90).
Bought them for $72 or so. They better last. |

I currently use these:
They're good for fast paced streams and general PA. The only thing is, there's not a lot of cushioning in the sole, so it'll hurt after playing for a while. They were only $35 at my local Famous Footwear, and they're a good value.
But pretty soon I'll probably be switching to these:
I tried them on at a Journeys store in a local mall. They're light and pretty comfortable, and they seem like they would be good for DDR/ITG. I haven't purchased them yet, but I will be in the near future. |

I bought a pair of Nike Shox Lethals last week. They're basketball shoes, but I think they will work well for DDR/ITG and running. I chose them because they're the most lightweight shoes Nike makes, and they have superb heel shock support. My left leg in the knee joint area gets hurt when playing for a couple hours in my current New Balance 811 shoes. Hopefully this upgrade will have me playing longer without any joint pains, and maybe I'll be able to more easily pass the 12 and 13 foot songs.

Some people say they will be bad since they aren't flat. We'll see. I got them because 1) they are light, and 2) they have great shock support, and my left leg would get really sore from playing for an extended period of time. _________________

Good choice sir! I only play in pumas or some kind of shoe that is similar to pumas: Light, fairly thin, and very comfortable _________________

If you are doing any song above an 11, I would not suggest them. I play with a certain technique, and the shox consistently gave me scores in the low 70's% when I would normally score 90-98%. I'm still looking.
Someone should make a CHART showing the good, the bad, and the ugly. At least make a chart showing what the top players wear, cause honestly no one cares about what Joe Light wears. What about the people passing 14+?
By the way, I pass up through 13's, and I wear New Balance 811 shoes. I have trouble hitting two arrows with one foot, however, and that is why I'm looking at new shoes.
Right now I am considering Nike Free and Puma Track shoes. _________________

I just bought a pair of Puma Taper SP shoes on eBay. The same shoes that Calimist and TheCosmicPope use. Now I will have no excuse to not pass 14+. _________________

Is the bottom conducive for heel & toe / bracket raping or just generally small movements? _________________

Lol well they are really light, the box seemed empty when I got it XD And I don't really heel toe, so I can't tell you anything about that _________________

Am I the only person that goes completely barefoot? This is on a cobalt flux, but I still think it would apply to an arcade. Barefoot helps me movie around easy like in socks, and I can easily cheat jumps/hands and bracket. I can also tell where I am at on my Cobalt Flux, and I can get traction like when I'm wearing shoes. After a few days of playing your feet will burn like hell, but you get used to it and it stops hurting after a week or so. |

My feet would get cut in the first minute of playing on a cobalt flux due to the ridges on the panels. I've already seen my roommate cut his foot open on my cobalt flux, so I'm not going to test my own luck... _________________

Yes
Seriously, there's only one person I've known that can play 9's regularly barefoot and she's pretty much not going to go any further because without shoes she will literally tear her feet up on the screws and bumps on the pad. _________________

Because I have bad feet (fallen arches) I play in heavy, expensive motion control shoes =\ |

I can do up to 14's, and I have a pair of ratty old new balance running shoes. So far I've gotten two new pairs of shoes, and had to go back to the new balance because they're better. They're very light, and don't stick too much. They are really flat though which can be a problem at times. |

Any suggestions for a woman?
I have a pair of Puma Cats, they're really comfy and light but they're also really ... stiff, that's the only word I can think of.
Right now, carrying them to and from the arcade so they don't get street wear abuse, I'm wearing these - Champion C9 Irene Studio Sport Shoes:
I LOVE them, they weigh nothing, they're flexible yet supportive. Problem? they're discontinued, can't find another pair anywhere!
Was looking at these Nike DayFly SI's (cannot wear Frees, make my ankles turn in, just not enough support on the sides of my feet?):
but am kind of worried that they're too high in the back. I already have enough problems with the arcade machine and the up arrow!
Any suggestions? places I could buy online or at like foot locker or maybe Modell's? Thanks! _________________

I remember seeing videos of Damien 99'ing 10's, 11's, and 12's in shoes similar to this:
Which, if you can get used to them, are decent. They're just really heavy compared to other shoes.
I've also seen quite a few high level players such as Calimist using Pumas:
In my experience, Pumas are quite good for any type of play. They're light but not too light and don't take much getting used to.
Also, to answer Yukihime's question, try looking for Asics/Onitsuka Tiger shoes. They're similar to Pumas but are more comfortable. |
