I did not exactly see a thread for this, so I made one here.
I wrote up a review for DDR X. It's a pretty honest one that I hope will help you in deciding if you want to get this game. Just keep in mind I mainly play DDR on 360, which is why I rated it lower. [Would be higher if I only own a PS2]
Here is the link:

P.S. If you wrote your own, feel free to post a link, I will read them when I can |

Yeah, but IGN also gave Beatmania US a shitty review for not being Guitar Hero.
IGN wrote: | Dance Dance Revolution X Review
Yup, Konami's still making these. |
...Yet, give them any rhythm game that utilizes a guitar, and I promise they'll cum their pants before they even start reviewing. _________________

Very true.
But then again, I think I may loathe Rockband/Guitar hero with those crappy plastic guitars more than i dislike DDR X... |

I think it's hard for IGN and other reviewers to actually get the point that you don't have to add 10 new types of arrows or modes to make a game fun.
Seriously, CheatCC gave HP2 a 2.9/5 because they wanted even MORE arrow types added from HP1, sheesh.
Funnily enough, they gave X a 4.1/5. _________________

The guy who reviewed is an absolute moron....yeah sure most of us would say Street Master Mode is cheesy, but wow this idiot COMPLAINS about the backgrounds being too bright to read arrows, yet he makes no mention Screen Filter.
This review is complete trash.
I found 1up's review to be more insightful. (Not that I rely on these reviews or anything.) |

"Party mode promises the potential of online play, but good luck finding opponents (I couldn't)" Why does everyone think party mode=online

i doubt theres any hardcore DDR players over at the ign office, and really DDR X is a pretty poopy mix for a non-DDR player. and stop saying "lol they'd give guitar hero a better review," because DDR used to be ridiculously popular over at ign. They gave Konamix and MAX a 9.5 and 9.3, respectively. DDR has just lost a lot of its thunder in the past 5 years, and to be honest its most likely going to stay that way. Eventually, Guitar Hero will go the way of DDR and people will stop caring. The problem is companies like making as much money as possible while the can so they make multiple mixes each year and people just get sick of it. Guitar Hero is a series that's at its peak right now and id say its about time it goes down. |

I'm willing to bet GH is dead after its 5th release and RB after its 3rd (or possibly 2nd). _________________

We can only hope? I know I am sick to death of all the GH/RB stuff. bleh I know DDR doesn't teach you how to dance, but at least you're moving. These guitar/band games sure aren't going to teach anyone how to really play a guitar or drum - and there's little physical benefit to those games.
Anyway, DDRX
The MCs need their mouths duct-taped shut, they're an annoyance and an embarrassment. Konami's lame attempt to go "urban" failed bigtime with that. And yes I do have them turned off during game play - but they still say the most gawdawful, cringe-worthy things before and after.
Otherwise I actually, for the most part, like it a lot more than I expected to after reading so many bad reviews of it. The song list as usual has both good and bad (Open, Lift You Up in particular are ugh imho). But I think there's more good songs than bad.
The only other thing that bugs me, aside from the MCs is the "new song" unlocking thing. Getting the message that there's a new song, finding that it's one I've unlocked already (i.e.: Pluto) BUT that I can only play it on, say, Challenge in order to keep it. If I can't or don't play the new song, it disappears for awhile.
Maybe it's because I didn't finish DMM by one song - the last one? I just can't do Trigger on difficult, heck I can barely pass that one on easy/basic. _________________

guitar hero is already well past its 5th release. Lets go back in time and take a look!
Guitar Hero
Guitar Hero 2
Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s
Guitar Hero 3
Guitar Hero On Tour
Guitar Hero Aerosmith
Guitar Hero World Tour
Guitar Hero On Tour Decades
in 3 years theres been 8 guitar hero games.
as for the franchises dying, thats rather unlikely. I'm guessing they'll stop losing a good amount of their mainstream popularity next year, but the loyal fanbase will stick by for years to come. Look at DDR. It's no where near as popular as it used to be. I remember back around 2001/2002 DDR first hit the US and it was all over the place. Game Reviewers went crazy for new DDR mixes. If you were good at DDR, you'd get huge crowds of people surrounding you in awe. Yet today, DDR still lives on and still has its hardcore players. GH/RB will be the same way. |

You are correct saying that DDR used to be popular on IGN in the early 2000's and they would give new DDR mixes high ratings. However it is still true that they would cum chocolate over a new Rock Band or Guitar Hero while giving DDR games low ratings. DDR Extreme 2 was the last major PS2 DDR game they gave a 7.5 or higher, and that was in 2005. |

and thats where you're wrong
DDR Universe got an 8.9
DDR Mario Mix got an 8.0
DDR Ultramix got an 8.7
DDR Ultramix 2 got an 8.5
all are pretty solid reviews.
now lets take a look at Guitar Hero
Guitar Hero Rocks the 80s got a 7.2
Guitar Hero 3(360 version) got an 8.9
i rest my case |

I was actually being sarcastic, but whatever. I honestly could care less what IGN thinks of the new DDR games since most "professional" game reviewers tend to be biased. |

I find that many game reviews tend to be focused on two goals:
-Introducing new "types" of games, however glitchy.
-Deglitching and rebuilding of a game, for it's sequel.
After that, many reviewers couldn't give two squats less about the actual playability of a game. If it's a "it's not broken, why change it" - like many DDR games are, they get modest-at-best reviews. If you want a really good, killer example of this, check out reviews on The King Of Fighters series.
On rare occasion, a developer will kind of drop the ball on a sequel, or implement a badly-constructed idea... and that will be the killer; such as people begging for mines in DDR for 4 years now, and now doing the shock arrows. See also: Spider-Man 3. |

With all due respect, the dude stated "last major PS2 release" although the fact some newer/more recent Dance Dance Revolution games, other than the ones for Playstation 2, receiving okay ratings may be a good point to make.
As for Dance Dance Revolution X, I like it. This is just me, but the announcer and shock arrows do not really bother me. I tend to want Dance Dance Revolution games for their particular songs (music, not stepcharts -- I am not that experienced ). Despite the fact this game's songlist is not my favorite of the games I own, I like the game. I guess the features and perhaps even interface sort of win me on this one. Of course, I am probably not to tough to please in terms of video games -- if it is entertaining and reasonable, I shall probably like it. I suppose I shall have to wait until I have played the game more in order to give an unbiased comparison to other games (I like playing this game more than the others right now because it is something new).
edit: On second thought, this game does have some pretty good songs. _________________

You can't "like" a game because it's new. You're confusing that focus on the game because you just bought it and you want to concentrate on seeing a bunch of stuff before life stops you. _________________
