I don't complain about it, I just don't like to use it. |

I wasn't referring to you. If you don't like to use it, that's perfectly fine. |

Oh, I know. I was just making sure others didn't think of me as part of that group... |

Im a hypocrite, people who complain about non-bar users are fine, yet nobody can complain about using the bar. |
Fixd.
Seriously, let people have their opinions, regardless of what it is. Enough of this double-standard bullshit. _________________

Dude, I was just being sarcastic. I've honestly gotten to the point of no longer caring about people complaining about the bar. And I don't think complaining about either is right. There really wasn't any need to do that. |

Holy Christ... People are STILL arguing about this? Do you really care that much if someone uses the bar? I personally don't use the bar and I don't care if someone does. If you really get that upset about someone using it, just grow a pair and forget about it. Just don't use the bar, it's THAT simple. Yes, it's annoying that people who play on Standard use the bar, but if you're gonna get all whiny and pissy about it, you're just as annoying as said person. _________________

People are still arguing about bar use because apparently it's 2004 and because apparently this is YouTube. I don't care whether someone use the bar or doesn't. If they want to hold on to it for dear life on Butterfly beginner, go right ahead, I don't care. It's not exactly practical to use the bar on easy songs, but if someone wants to I don't have a problem with it. |

well, some noobs tend to think that's how your meant to play... I was at the arcade one day and some girl started playing beginer, but didn't know how to play. she gave up halfway through, then some friend of hers got on and said "no, here's how you play... you hold on to this thing here", and he grabeb the bar, and continued to explian the game. |

Of course, such "noobs" -- who most likely do not know the game as well as most of us do -- probably figure the bar is attached to the machine for a purpose, so they use it. I kind of like holding the bar -- I hold the bar only for heavy/expert eight-footers (I have never tried anything higher than that on an arcade machine yet). So, why bother including the bar if the producers of the game don't want/expect anyone to use it? And who says the bar should not be used for anything less than eight or nine feet? The previous sentence was not a challenge or argument -- I am just wondering whether the producers of the game actually intended the bar exclusively for tougher songs, or whether that is just the standard of some players. _________________

I think the bar was originally put there for safety. If you lose your balance while attempting something a foot or two above your usual level, you can grab onto the bar to right yourself rather than fall over. Now, it certainly helps me on 10-, harder 9- *coughcartoonheroescough* and some 8-footers. It allows me to step a bit faster and using less energy than if I were to do it no-bar, at the expense of a bit of PA. I personally believe that if you can do better on Standard or even Light with the bar, though, go for it! But if you've ALWAYS used the bar, try an easy song without it once or twice to see if you do better or worse. |

Basically I use the bar on any song that isn't fun to play no-bar. I play almost completely no-bar on anything below a 10 (with the exception of a select few ITG charts that IMO are way too gay to be 9's). However, it's rare for me not to use the bar on a 10+ songs if I'm trying to get a good score. I'm too darn big and tall to do 10s without the bar's help. _________________

Now it makes sense for tall people
I'm short and super skinny, so for me to use the bar is like a joke _________________

Is this the part where we start arguing "center of gravity" and how that makes it easier for some people to play ddr/use the bar? |

Here's all I have to say...
I'm 6'7" and 220 lbs. I am the Mack Truck of DDR players. <---God dam that's an awesome quote.
Most of you are probably close to 5'6" and around 150 lbs. You're all the equivalent of sports cars.
I do my best with what I've got, but aside from bigger feet and a longer legs, I can't think of any advantage I've got over the average guy. It takes a ton of energy for me to move quickly and do complex songs at my size, and don't even get me started on hands...ugh, they're soooo far away it takes me forever to get down that far.
P.S. Trying to use the bar blowz for me, 'cause I have to lean so far back to balance a decent amount of my weight on the bar. T_T _________________
