cardio strength and muscle training-endurance are 2 different things. Both are needed to be truly healthy, unless you have a medical condition that precludes you from doing something. Which would probably mean you wouldn't be able/allowed to DDR.
Most people should exercise at least 3 to 4 days a week, at least 30 minutes each session.
muscle strengthening/endurance is anaerobic exercise. Something like sprinting, lifting weights.
I personally consider Pilates to be almost anaerobic. You're working your core (like you wouldn't believe if you've never tried it ... the hundreds will KILL you the first few times) but you're not really moving fast or doing any one exercise for more than say, a few minutes. You are constantly moving in that regard, because you're going into different postures and exercises. But you're mostly on the floor. You will sweat (unless you're already in super shape), but I can't consider it aerobic in the same way I'd consider being on your feet moving around. However, it is great exercise and it also stretches you at the same time it's working your muscle groups.
cardio fitness is aerobic exercise, aerobic meaning "oxygen producing" (correct me if I'm wrong? it's been awhile since I've had to take classes on this). Walking, running/jogging (not sprinting), biking, swimming, aerobics classes and to me, DDR'ing if you do it say on non-stop mode for at least a half hour, at least 3 times a week.
Don't forget stretching. Keeping your muscles flexible will help overall and help you to not get injured. Yes, I actually have heard of people being injured playing DDR!
Last but certainly not least - if you're doing any activity, even DDR, and you feel pain - STOP. There's a difference between being a little sore from doing crunches and not being able to stand up straight cause you've done too much and you've now hurt your back. Seriously, pain is your body's way of saying Yo, something's not right here!
All that and a good healthy diet, a variety of activities, vitamins, water ... it'll all help! _________________

Bike, Run, and Play DDR.
Biking trains your gluts and calves, running trains your quads and lungs, and DDR trains your DDR. _________________
