Okay, I just decided to take a peek at this forum for the first time since January, and I'm honestly a little disgusted.

7 of the 19 regular postings on the front page are locked. Wow. I'm really glad our mods are doing their jobs so well, but it shouldn't be that obvious, so I want to remind everyone of a few things.

1. This is not random chat. If you want to troll, not care about DDR, and post dumb topics, RC or #chan would be a fantastic place to get banned.

2. NATE, nobody likes you. It's not some inherent prejudice, it's the fact that you don't think before you post. The ability to accumulate 7 warnings in 2 weeks is something that should be reserved for 11-year-olds. Grow up a little before you try to weasel out of your next ban.

3. USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION. It's up there right between the memberlist and the forums FAQ. Don't see it? CTRL+F will show the way!

4. Don't try to be a smartass. No matter who wins the flamewar, the mod who locks the topic and gives you points will be victorious.

5. It's like golf. Keep your score as low as you can.

Thanks for reading, and please, don't take any of this personally (except NATE; you really need to take it personally), just keep these basic guidelines in mind and peruse the rules now and then.

Peace out chit-chatters,
-DT

With all due respect, the layout of this forum CAN be a bit complicated and confusing at first. When I first registered, I could only post in certain forums, and had questions that belonged in the forums I couldn't post in. So, I tried posting in another forum only to be told it was the wrong forum, and have my topic locked before my questions were answered.

Also, the search function has never worked for me since I signed up to this forum. It searches, but never got any results for searches that should have had tons of hits.

It's been a while since I first registered, so I don't remember it very clearly, but the weird posting limitations for new members does sound familiar. Isn't there some kind of thing that makes it so you can't post within 48 hours of registering or something like that? That actually wound up pulling $140 out of my pocket because I was too impatient to wait to be able to post questions in the Bemani Controllers forum and just went ahead and bought a couple DDR pads, when I would have done a lot better in the long run had I asked more questions and decided to make my own.

As for the search problems, I have used it in the past to track down posts in 4 different forums and just tried looking for the keyword "GIGANAUT" by "DancingTofu(SMC)" in "Bemani Controllers" and it it gave both of the 2 results I expected. What browser are you using? I've experienced problems with this site using IE, FF2.xx, and Opera, but it's worked fine for me using FF3.xx, so that could be your problem there. Otherwise, it's a bug that you should talk to some of the site administrators about if you haven't already.

I use firefox 2.0.0.16
I just tried to search, and just got a white blank screen out of it.

They may have a 48hour rule, but you still can't create a topic in certain forums unless you are a standard member which takes like 2 weeks or something like that.

I second the search failure. I believe it happens with Firefox, because I can't search at home, yet I can when at school or work on IE. Strange, but this is my experience.

As for noobs posting something in the wrong forum - lighten up people. I can say with absolute certainty that this is the worst impression you can give to a newbie on a forum. They are new, or rarely visit, and obviously would be posting in the appropriate spot if they knew where it was. Simply replying to a question with the generic "wrong thread" post doesn't do anybody any good. If you want them to learn, then answer their question and politely tell them where they should ask a similar question in the future. If you don't have an answer, then just keep your dam mouth shut. If you think you're doing the world a huge service by making that first "This should be in the (insert subject here) thread. Admin, lock this" reply, you're not. You're just a douch who'd adding nothing and simply pointing out a noobs mistake.

Plus, is this forum really getting swamped with posts? I check it frequently and honestly, I wish there were more posts...even pointless ones.

You're worse than the people you're bitching about op, this is about the worst flamebait I've seen in awhile.

Also, I love how you vouch for roughly 6,680,000,000 people when you say no one likes me.

What are you, 13? Go back to GameFAQs. Someone might think you're cool there.

also, in before a super edgy and snarky response from nate and then a mod lock.

To clarify, I'm not trying to moderate here. I'm not a greenfoot and don't really think I ought to be. If moderation were all this forum needed, this topic wouldn't be necessary. Again, those looking to flame and troll with no repercussions really ought to find another site to do so, because I don't want this site being renowned for its disgusting treatment of new users and blatant disregard for the mods and admin, and I don't think the folks paying the bills to keep this site running want that either.

Flamebait, I've seen enough decent posts from you to not hold any sort of grudge or anything, but did saying that really do anything?

That's interesting that the search function has a commonly experienced rate of non-function that's apparently not unique to specific users. Again, tell the mods about glitches; I'm pretty sure there's a forum for that.

Also, Hi guys, this is my first time on 4chan. Who's OP?
Oh right, this is DDRFreak, not 4chan, where people have names.

This makes a lot of sense to me. A lot of the forums on this site are pretty harsh towards newbies. I was immediately attacked the first time I ventured into both Imaging and RC, and it seems this board has become pretty vicious too.

Suko, I don't think this forum is getting swamped with posts, just that a large portion of the content is below worthless. I think we'd see a lot more conversational posts if more of the regulars became less combustible and more rational.

Nate, your responses justify the statement; you can't accept criticism. I dislike targeting specific people, but you've really gotten to the point where it's impossible to take you seriously and difficult to read your posts without getting angry. You're killing threads. Also, way to respond to your own posts to skew the visible opinion; for a second I thought those were actually two different people. I guess your extra accounts must think you're a pretty swell guy.

EDIT:
Quote:

I can buy this. My best friend's a total jerk on half the forums he's on. Doesn't mean he's a bad person; he's actually the coolest person I know, but I'd still really like him to troll a lot less and be more diplomatic about stuff on some of the forums that really do have potential for serious discussion. That said, I guess I shouldn't be so presumptuous about Nate, but it would be nice if he could make his posts constructive and thoughtful.

Taking the internet seriously and not wanting to read someone acting like a gigantic faggot over an internet message board are two completely different situations. I could care less about him and his incredibly tasteless and boring posts, but don't try defending him by saying "Oh he's cool in real life!" when none of us are EVER going to interact with him outside of this forum.

5. It's like basketball. Keep your score as high as possible.
