at home, soft pad (right now the konami flat one bundled with SN2) ... so, socks or ballet slippers. Barefoot I don't like, gotta clean the mat and even then my feet kinda "stick" and it feels gross.

Socks rock. I play ddr in socks even on my metal pad at home, but in the arcade, I wear pumas. Can't go wrong with lightweight and flexible.

Nike Frees. Same reason. Light and flexible. I have a lot of trouble moving my feet fast for 10s as well as songs like Grad Cyber, Ska A Go Go, and V Oni. So switching to light shoes has made it a lot easier to do all of these songs.

My 5.0s:

Xenon, I LOVE your 5.0s! You know, I was looking for sneakers, didn't see those anywhere. Cause if I had, I'd have probably bought them, they just look so comfy and I like nike.

I'm wearing these awful looking cheap (as in on sale for like $1.79) little canvas sneakers that have the slipperiest soles I've ever encountered. They're perfect for soft "hard" mats, get to slide just a little, protect my feet a little and no problems with a grippier sole on the pad.

Basically, even if I never get past basic, I'm trying to slowly get my body/feet used to the idea of shoes cause at some point I'm gonna cave and buy a metal pad - and probably get evicted riiight.gif

I'm planning to get myself a pair of Frees, but I was hoping for some advice on the specific type. Anyone have a glowing recommendation for which one I should go for?

I wear these blue pair of Converse that are really torn up and covered in holes.I love them because they're so light that it feels like I'm wearing socks, but I don't have to worry about hurting my feet =D

At home, on a soft mat: Barefeet or non-skid slipper socks.
At the arcade: DC shoes or Reebok classics
Once, I wore ballet flats at the arcade, but ended up with sore feet.

WOWWY KA-ZOWWY! I'm shocked no one has mentioned Saucony's! Those shoes are awesome! They weigh almost nothing so you can feel the pad really nicely, and they have awesome traction because they're kind of like Cross-Trainers. Also, I tried playing in socks at the 'cade and when I was doing a corner double (up-right or somethin') I slipped, fell back, hit my head on the pad, cracked it open and got a concussion. Pretty damn proud of it too!

I think sauconys make good DDR shoes too, but the ones I have aren't that great. do you like a certain model thats good for DDR?

Whatever I've got on at the time.
Lately, I've been wearing my VANS pretty much everywhere I go outside of the house... so... I'd have to say the VANS.

sorry guys this is a bit off topic but can someone recommend me some shoes which are good for the arcade pads, i.e shoes which dont slip around, have a gd feel etc.
I had nike dunks but they were slippery, i bought k-swiss classics thinking they'll be uber as kevbo boddy DDR'd with them but they too were slippery on the pads.

Perhaps its our pads? but i played on 3 different machines and found my feet slipping on the arrows each time i stepped E2.gif

I'd go for Nike Free 7.0s. I wear them and I have no slippage whatsoever.

As for what I wear, Nike Free 7.0s E13.gif, which I got for $20 thumb.gif. They're good for my blueshark and the arcade.

I had an old pair of low top Converse All Stars that were awesome at the arcade.

Now I have some Puma Speed Cat's that grip like a mothafuka. The only thing that sucks is that Puma Shoes are not cheap.

I don't really pay attention to my shoes. I usually wear my worn-down New Balance or CrossTrekkers (generic PayLess brand). They are broken in enough that I can arch or twist my feet easily to hit the arrows. They're not especially slippy or grippy, but my movements are usually too controlled to notice.

I've started playing with Doc Marten steel toed boots to improve my balance, stamina, and timing. They weigh 6 lbs each, so I rarely get pad misses or dropped holds.
