So, like an idiot, I thought this thread was for asking questions about the pad's features, not so much a thread also about asking how to fix things. Pardon my thread lower on the board, I am reposting that message here since I imagine it will be deleted or locked because I am made of fail.
My Cobalt Flux works wonderfully, but has an annoying problem: it just loves sticking to the bottoms of my shoes. I guess friction is the problem? I have cleaned the pads many times to no avail, and somehow my shoes do not stick to arcade pads. Why the crap am I sticking to the lexan so bad? Anybody have any solutions?
Oh I suppose I should mention that I have tried what was essentially chalk powder out of desperation and it worked for about half a song. Anything oily or wet at all would be a definite no, as it would get on my shoes and make hell of a mess. This is not helped by our having carpet.
Anyway, if anybody (especially Cobalt Flux owners who had and overcame this problem) have any solutions, I would be very grateful. Thanks! _________________

just received my two PIU CB... and one thing to say.... they are manufactured in someone's garage, the hole for the buttons are completely jagged like a 6 year old would do... beware of future CF products... not only are they slow to answer, but I also think they are starting to lack suppliers / etc... _________________

well they finally told me after 48 hours that you need to keep start and select pressed whil;e starting the game... it works.
I am just wondering how hard it would be to write that on a piece of paper and pack it with the CB or anywhere on the website!
I will let you know if it works better than the pads coming with PIU _________________

I got my CF in December and recently when i press the X and O buttons i hear some sort of cracking and it looks like shards of plastic are scraping against the arrow. Is there anything wrong with them? Also, sometimes the arrows double tap which cause me to drop holds or get goods/almosts. How can I fix this? Would stepping on the arrows to hard contribute to this problem?
I had the same problem when I first got my Cobalt Flux back in August 2006. It went away as I used the pad more. I think it was because it was so new it needed wearing in. It's great! Unfortunately, I accidentally broke my control box the 1st of May and ordered one from the website. I guess they are working on things right now. I'm going nuts because I have to use my backup soft pad that came with Supernova. And boy, does it SUCK compared to the cobalt. But it's part of my workout routine. My control box is supposed to come the 22nd and hopefully everything will again be in working order. I think I am just paranoid that from me not using the control pad, it won't work or something
Also, I read if you have a ps2 and the flux, sometimes it registers ghost steps because it was some kind of glitch somewhere. Hope this helps! |

Hi Mel
I don't have CF or a metal pad (I wish!)
The crackling sounds are, to me, a little worrying. Have you tried getting in touch with CF? It could be something minor, or it could be something truly is wrong (you say it looks like shards of plastic scraping). That sounds like it could potentially cut into the sensors.
The PS2 glitch with ghosting I'd also contact them about - it could have something to do with your cracking/arrows double tapping.
Good luck and let us know how things work out! _________________

Actually Yukihimi, I was trying to respond to someone else's post earlier but I couldn't figure out how to do that nifty box thing because I R computer retarded! Lol. I really like my cobalt and it was a good investment for me. Almost 2 years on that thing already and if it was the control box it should work good as new! But if you are thinking of getting one, the website is verryyy slooww. I believe they are upgrading. I noticed if I pester them with emails they usually respond the same day.
I"ll tell you how I made out with the new control box! |

I've had my CF for about 9 months now, it's been pretty reliable until about a month ago. The up arrow was becoming less responsive daily, when it finally just stopped responding at all. At first I thought it just needed to be cleaned, so I did, and it didn't help. So then I tried getting a new control box, which I needed for a less responsive start button, which still didn't fix the up arrow. So at the moment, I have no idea what could be causing it not to respond. |

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I"m not talented mechanically so I can't offer much advice. Maybe someone else here could. Maybe you overloaded the arrow? Have any unnecessary pressure on the up arrow? That's the only thing I can think of. Because 9 months is not that long to have had that thing. I stomp on mine every day on heavy and nearly 2 years later it still works. I heard they kind of 'upgraded' it too. Maybe that has something to do with the quality of it. I got mine back in Aug '06. I recently had to buy a new control box and it finally came (YAY) and worked great, but compared to the older one, it looked quite different. The only advice I can offer is if you have the year warrantee and the money is to send it back to get repaired. Or if you don't, either send it back to still get it repaired, take it to someone you know who could fix it or just get a new one. If you get a new one you might want to try another brand.
Hope this helps and good luck! |

Hey guys, I am considering buying a cobalt flux but I have a question. Does it come with USB cables or do I need to buy a converter. Thanks! _________________

My mom's decided to get me some Cobaltfluxes (mainly so my brother can get some exercise) so I have a few questions.
1)How high is the risk of screw holes stripping? I don't want to destroy the screw holes with regular cleaning procedures. In the case if stripping, is there a permanent solution?
2)I've heard of many control box problems, but I think these problems were happening around 2004-2006. Do control box problems exist today? Do any major problems exist?
3)If I'm used to an Ignition pad (RedOctane) will I have any trouble adjusting to pad dimensions? I shouldn't since the Ignition is like arcade arrow dimensions, right? I know I'll have to adjust to recessed arrows (I'll be getting arcade mods).
4)Is there anything I really need to know before buying or while owning a CF? I've read the manual online so I have a general idea of maintenance and troubleshooting.
5)How long will it take two pads to ship (Doubles Pack)?
6)Do these slide around a lot? My Ignition slides about an inch or two every song on my not-plushy carpet (I'm a heavy player). Will two pads being connected add to down force and keep the pad still?
I think that's it for now, I'll edit with more questions if need be. Edits will be in another color if there are any. |

I also have a question, can you set up the arcade mod so you have the pump setup? instead of putting them on the corners, can you put them on left, right, down, and up? _________________

all the arcade mod is is 5 pieces of lexan/durable plastic and some longer screws. To be honest, if you found out the screw size, you could probably easily do it yourself with a drill for about half of the price
to put it simply though, yes. Although that leads to one of the biggest faults with the cobalt flux; its use of wood screws. Instead of havng the screws go into something, you're actually screwing the screws into the wooden base. With how much the cobalt flux is(really, that pad should NOT be over $200), i excepted a better design. |

Would the pump it up control box work with a version 1 cobalt flux? Is it safe to do a penny mod or are you taking a chance at messing up your cobalt flux? _________________

DO NOT ORDER A PAD WITH THE ARCADE MOD. They're cheap bastards who will steal 5 of your panels. Order the arcade mod AFTER THE PAD SHIPS if you want it.
The arcade mod works fine. I played on a couple pads with arcade mods and got a bunch of sightread **'s and ***'s and didn't even bother to unbow the panels first. _________________

I recently got a cobalt flux ver 1 and I did a penny mod to it and it is really hard to move around on it and to get the arrows to step fast like on colors oni and max 300 heavy. Should I do something about the cardboard in the center panel? It seems like its easier to move around with my shoes off but I dont really want to have to play with my shoes off. Its not like I suck or have bad technique because i've AAed max 300 heavy and the legend of max heavy at the arcade no bar. Is there any way to make the cobalt flux any better or easier to play on? _________________
