God, these are OLD pics. But I guess since I've been on a personal mission to get back into shape and play DDR again I thought I'd post.

My pad... made in 6-8 hours I think. (in other words, one evening once i had the materials... was gonna do progress pics but i got excited and finished too fast)

-Uses Matrix Sensors
-All Panels Float on Screws/Washers (Very sturdy, my practically 300lb neighbor used it without problems riiight.gif )

Really should be coated with something, but i'm too damn lazy... I'll be making a PIU version whenever PIU Pro makes the switch to consoles (and hopefully PC)

Wow, silver, that looks awesome. You printed the ITG2 decals, and you placed them on your pad, I take it? Supposing I am right, how exactly did you do it?

I finally made a pad that works lol.

It's ghetto and a half. I need to clean it up and tweak the sensitivity still. I haven't played much on it yet (only 1 set), but I FC'd Rhythm and Police on it, so it at least works on somewhat hard songs.

i just printed them off from my computer, which sucks because it BLEW through my ink.. disturb.gif and i had to print it in 4 sheets of paper per arrow..

but yeah, i just didnt want to spend the money on kinko's, and at the time it was about 9pm, so they would have been closed anyway E13.gif

i have the decals if you want (i have L/R/U/D, diagonals, and X/O i think)
cant remember who posted them, but props to them biggrin.gif
(3333x3333 resolution if i remember right)

I tried using my new RO with wood under it hoping for better stability, better scores, maybe less of the wackiness the ITG RO pads do (the stand in the middle and watch things fire away while you're not moving a muscle? - well, none of that happened and ... My knees, hips and lower back were truly NOT amused. I could barely walk I was in such pain - and only did like a half hour on Training on beginner mode SN2. Getting older/Arthritis is no joke!

So, I decided to try a "soft mod" using 4" square by 3/8" thick dense foam "puzzle" pieces I got at the $1 store. Put them all together then taped the heck out of them using packing tape that has the strings in it. This is the front, and you can see the little blocks I used as my prototype (a $9 investment) - Note: the weird "pink" color in the pic? reflection from the flash on my cruddy camera and I don't have overhead lighting:

Then placed the dance pad on that, didn't have the official vinyl, so I used a heavy gauge clear shower curtain liner - don't know how long it'll hold up, but it's really comfy and it's all one piece ... no seams on the front!. I was able to slide just a little, which is more than I could before - wearing socks now. Bare feet will not work with this - they really stick to the vinyl.

I don't know if the shower curtain trick would work with a) shoes (highly doubt it); b) the standard wood mod unless you really taped the edges of the wood to make them smooth and like me, used double sided tape (or velcro?) to hold it in place. Staples I'm pretty sure would end up just ripping it.

I used double sided tape on the back to secure the shower curtain and just regular wide clear tape on the top and bottom (basic packing tape). I also used 4 small pieces of double sided tape on the corners of the pad to help keep it gripped onto my puzzle bad, kinda / and \ depending on the corner. Here's the back view (yeah, I tried double side taping some rug gripper on there didn't work, maybe need a whole piece and really secure it)...I can say this barely moved through about an hour of playing. You can really see the blocks I used in this pic (had a few left over, and yes, they are Disney themed. What do you want from the $1 store? E15.gif

As you can see from this side view, there are a couple problems ... a) it's not quite thick/soft enough without being "mushy" - it's pretty hard (all the tape I think). Not wood hard, but, eh, I think you get the idea; and b)the whole base thing bows up in the corners.

I think I need to use better/thicker/denser blocks and maybe not tape them quite so tightly (I did get a little carried away with the tape?). Here's a pic of the side so you can see what I mean:

Any thoughts, suggestions? I do want to try this again, not only for me but for anyone else who has problems, is older, has had an injury ... whatever and needs a stable, yet slightly forgiving base. Thinking of using better, thicker (think portable 12mm "gym floor" type) pieces that're closer to a 1/2" by 12" square. I also found a place online that sells hardwood floor vinyl protector and it's 36" wide and they sell it in 20' rolls for aournd $35 US. Not a bad investment for all those mods that need doing/replacying. Just depends on the quality. Gotta email them and get the full story on that, see if it's any thicker than a heavy gauge shower curtain, all that good stuff.

I think I could use a few more...

The Afterburner will soon be connected to my very ghetto Stepmania Setup, a computer hooked up to my TV via S-video and RCA cables. It's actually really awesome, I'll be making a video when I get it fully functional.

that pink dance pad is my old dance pad! XD

theres a pic of my (now) only dance pad. It has more scribbles on it now that me and my friend did because we were bored. BUt yeah, i got that thing early 2006 and its still going strong, unmodded. I AAd rhythm and poice on it yesterday, hehe.

i've gone through quite a few dance pads in my day tho, so i figure ill upload all the ones i have pics of!

REALLY messy pic of my old DDR/gaming setup, this pic is probably from the end of 2005. pad in pic is an ignition pad knockoff from ebay; worked suprisingly well for a year or so.

my first BNS sparkle pad. given to a friend as a gift. got a second one later on and recently sold it

modded cobalt flux. I liked it for a while, but metal pads just don't work well for me(i play in my office/study area now, and having to lug a metal pad in here is annoying, so i sold it).

i've also had a mad catz pad(GOD THOSE SUCK!!), redoctane ignition 3.0(i returned it to best buy 4 times before giving up, they worked great at first but would always stop working), gamestop deluxe pad(worked amazingly for me for 4 months, i just used foam inserts from a different pad and it worked great), and a gamestop normal pad(which SUCKED, i actually turned it into a halloween costume, lol). wow, i wonder how much money i've wasted on DDR, lol.

Yep, your typical run of the mill Ignition 3.0 pad. It's worked really well for the amount of time I've had it.

Using microswitches there? My pad looks a bit right that right now too, except far more ghetto. I just have 4 screws in the panel and 4 pennies in the arrow well for each panel; I wanted to throw a pad together for a convention and only had a day to make it with absolutely no money lol.

I just checked my pictures; looks like I still haven't gotten around to taking pictures of it, and I haven't played on it since March because I don't really play DDR when I'm alone, but maybe one day!

They work and they're about a buck each. 'nuff said tongue.gif

I just don't like the screws I have to use to mount them in place since they are pretty skinny screws, they break off while screwing in ~_~
