I got my new control box with a V1 to V2 converter cable (it's actually a VGA to SGA cable). The control box is recognized in Windows XP as a Redoctane Dance Pad (heh). It is the new control box with built in USB and Xbox compatibility. However, when using the USB, I get no response from the pad in game controllers < settings. Of course, I also get no response in stepmania. I also tried going from the control box's PS2 to my Trio Linker and got the same response. I then unplugged and re-plugged in everything and got the same response. Just for good measure, I unplugged everything two more times with no response from the pad. The start and select buttons on the control box show up in game controllers, but not my pad. Am I screwed? Did I just waste $263 on a used V1 CF, Trio Linker, and new control box? I hope not. Help anyone? I'm thinking maybe Cobalt Flux sent me a bad V1 to V2 converter cable, or maybe the new control box is incompatible with a V1 pad (which wouldn't make sense since they sell a converter cable). I would contact the cobalt flux customer service via e-mail, but coincidentally their North American website is down right now.
EDIT: I GOT EVERYTHING WORKING!! The problem was the connector that plugs into my pad had a plastic piece on it that was too big to fit into the indentation of my pad. As a solution, I used something like a filer and widened the slot in my pad. Now the connector fits tightly into my pad and everything works good! Problem solved, however it was caused by Cobalt Flux _________________

I've had my cobalt flux for 3 years now after very heavy playing by all sorts of people. No problems yet! |

Has anyone ordered a cobalt flux from bestbuy.com? Has the cobalt flux helped you get better scores at the arcade after you adjust to the arcade? Does the cobalt flux move around if your playing 10-13 footers? _________________

It's just as good as any practice.
No it doesn't move. Not with a little grip tape on the bottom. |

Do you have to step in the middle of the arrow for the steps to register on a cobalt flux? Is there a way to mod the cobalt flux so you can step on the corners? _________________

I'd order the CF directly from their website or get one used local pick-up on these forums (I did that). Look on the marketplace.
Any area of the arrow on the CF works. My used cobalt flux is much more sensitive than a brand new one. I think the new ones need to be broken in.
Just my opinion, but don't get the arcade mod. I like my used CF without the arcade mod more than the two brand new arcade modded CFs my school's club just got.
The cobalt flux is good practice for the arcade. The arcade is not good practice for the cobalt flux, however. Understand what I'm saying? If you're good with a cobalt flux, you'll play well anywhere. It's not like that if you're good at an arcade. Step on a home pad and your scores might drop by a couple feet. You can be consistent anywhere with practice on a CF. This is my experience from playing at the arcade, on afterburners, a couple other metal pads, redoctane ignition, and several cobalt fluxs. _________________

That seems completely backwards, how often do you play at an arcade?
If you're used to playing with brackets (ie. at the arcade), you should find it even easier to play on a flat CF, unless you accidentally trigger arrows occasionally.
But if you're used to playing on a flat CF you're going to have a lot of trouble adjusting to recessed arrows. What reasoning leads you to the conclusion that CF makes you better at the arcade and not vice-versa? |

Well maybe its because you have to just know where the arrows are on a CF instead of feeling it out like at an arcade. Also, maybe because you cannot step on the corners of the CF arrows. So you might be more accurate at the arcade. |

Why are the new cobalt fluxes not as sensitive as the old cobalt fluxes? Are the new ones still using the same gauge size for the sheet metal contacts as the old ones? Like are the new cobalt fluxes sheet metal contacts more or less flexible than the old cobalt flux sheet metal contacts? What is in between the 2 sheet metal contacts? Is the new and old cobalt flux both using the same thing to separate the 2 sheet metal contacts? _________________

If there has been a sensitivity change, the main reason would be the spacing between the buttons (vertical). The ground sheet and the nine individual buttons are separated by 4 circular pieces of Velcro, 1 inch in diameter. This Velcro serves 3 purposes. One is to separate the ground sheet from the tops of the bottoms. Two is to keep the upper sheet metal piece in place in addition to the screws. The third reason is as a contact point for the wiring.
If the thickness of the Velcro has changed then a sensitivity change may occur, but I am not sure if the new ones are less sensitive than the old ones at all. |

can anyone tell me how to fix a pad(cobalt flux) i have had the pad for about 8-9 months and have had no problem until now, i seem to be getting a lot of what would you call it "ghost steps" or when an arrow is triggered by itself(mostly all arrows but the most have to be the left and right arrows, sometimes very FAST) and also some buttons just don't respond for about 3 seconds(right arrow, sometimes the other ones) i tried cleaning it and tried it and still with the arrows triggering by itself and i do take off (options in the game) so the other buttons won't be triggered(X,O square and triaingle) so anybody know how to fix it so i won't be getting ghost steps(or however they are called). |

It will need replacing. |

Is the new and old cobalt flux both using the same thing to separate the 2 sheet metal contacts? | I've noticed this as well. The DDR Club at my college bought two new CFs around December, and compared to my several year old V1 CF, they aren't nearly as sensitive. It's not a huge deal though; my scores are just as high on the new pads.
One problem I get on my CF now that I'm starting to do more difficult 10 and 11 foot songs is when I move my foot from one arrow to the other, I sometimes brush up against the panels on one arrow. The panels are slightly uneven now I think due to age. I have not unscrewed the panels ever. Maybe I should go ahead and get the new replacement panels so when I do unscrew everything it will be for two reasons _________________

I got my CF in December and recently when i press the X and O buttons i hear some sort of cracking and it looks like shards of plastic are scraping against the arrow. Is there anything wrong with them? Also, sometimes the arrows double tap which cause me to drop holds or get goods/almosts. How can I fix this? Would stepping on the arrows to hard contribute to this problem? |

I think it's caused by dirt or some other substance that got between the lexon panel and the metal sheet.
I don't really have any issues with double tapping. Maybe you could try disabling all but the left/up/down/right arrows for during gameplay and use your keyboard to force fail a song. I've heard that makes a difference. A bonus of having a V1 pad is I don't have any X/O arrows to screw me up; my start and select buttons are at the very bottom and difficult to reach during normal gameplay. On the other hand, I can't play Pump It Up. _________________

I'm thinking about getting a couple of these but...
I want to know:
Is the arcade panel addition similar in dimensions to a real arcade ITG pad?
Can this attachment be placed on U/D/L/R to only expose the PIU panels? |

Hi !
Can we play PIU with the new control box ( with green buttons ) ?
When I plug it, it is recognized as " redoctane " but only 10 buttons , not the middle one.
Somebody succeded on playing Pump it up with this control box ? |

Yes, you can play Pump it Up on the Cobalt Flux V2 pad with the new control box. You just have to take out some cardboard underneath the middle button to activate it.
I've only played on the arcade a couple times (many years ago), but I believe the CF is the same dimensions as the arcade. You could always do some google research and look up the dimensions _________________
