When I'm playing DDR, I'm usually wearing either of these 3 shoes:

Nike 6.0 Air Mogan.

Converse EV Pro 2K5.

Etnies Variant (I think that's what they are called)

When I play at home, I usually wear just thin socks. But when I'm at the arcade, I usually wear my normal shoes(etnies,vans,coverse,ect..)

Play in socks on my old cheap Konami pad, play in my Nikes on my pad and in the arcades, and I never play barefoot cause its gross, it sweats up the panels, resulting in less traction, and makes them stink. I do not believe in playing barefoot or in socks, it is better to have traction with shoes on. I would never challenge a player barefoot cause I don't like it and you aren't supposed to play like that. I have never played barefoot and never will E7.gif

but most of the time, this:

oh yeah, i love that 'camo' shoe... it's a pair i can abuse...
i can dance well in it. whee!

Converse chucks-- I've been wearing them consistently since I started playing DDR a few years ago. They're my choice of shoe out of comfort, and that's about all.

As long as you're not playing barefoot on the arcade pads, I guess it's fine, but playing barefoot in the arcade is disgusting.

Socks are fine. At least when you're wearing socks, you're somewhat protecting your foot so that you don't spread your germs onto the pads. Barefoot, however, makes the pads smell like crap, and you usually don't know if the the person playing barefoot has a contagious foot disease or something.

When I play, the socks are brand spanking new (I mean washed E10.gif), and the only reason I play in them is because my shoes lock up on me while playing faster songs, and I end up messing up, or falling down. I also like the feeling of socks when I play, because I tend to dance on the machine. People not wearing any foot protection are disgusting, and yes, it makes the pads stink, and I would hate to get some foot disease. But, I usually wipe the pads down before I play.

Puma Complete Road Racer's E1.gif. It's meant to be a marathon shoe, so it's quite light and also quite comfortable. It's pretty slippery at first, but after breaking it in a bit, it becomes just right for any grip/slip player. Only problem for me is that the laces are a bit too long; they come undone quite a lot.

For a while, I almost always used these:

Nike 6.0 Air Mogans, size 10.5, bought at Pac Sun for $65. Good grip, light, and ridiculously comfy.

But I'll start using these when I get the chance to go to an arcade:

Nike Vandal, size 11.5, bought at Foot Locker for $65. I haven't tried them on an arcade pad yet, but I tried them on my modded home pad, and they seem to be pretty grippy. They're light and pretty comfy.

I like skate shoes best. I remember I went to a bowling alley with my family, and there was ddr there. Anyways, I was wearing heels, so I tried playing in them (not a good idea) and then gave up and played in my moms shoes (which had weird cotton heat insulating stuff inside) not too smart either. riiight.gif

I, too, am a fan of Pumas. I have some really light Pumas that are great, but even my regular Pumas are awesome. I used to play in Vans, and while they're nice for FA, they just feel too heavy. I see a lot of good players playing in that heavy style shoe though.

I can't see how anyone could play without shoes at the arcade, even if you're only playing easy songs. I think it's gross, and I can't see how anyone could improve playing with no shoes. I can understand playing without them at home, though.
