Hiya everyone, I'm new to DDR. I've played it before, but I'm not very good at it. I finally bought DDR Extreme for the 360 last year, played it a bunch, still suck (most of the songs are just too fast/quick for my feet.. because I'm so new).. however, I learned about Step Mania from a friend. I quickly downloaded it, and pulled in almost 2000 songs for it. I've got every single DDR arcade game mix and remix, among other things (like Disney's dance rave and stuff.. which is a lot of fun.. if not darn near impossible...) and my new years resolution is DDR 30 minutes to an hour, a day, to lose excess weight.
I got my DDR Extreme mat working with Vista, so I can actually dance to the songs using a real mat (it even accepts dual step inputs without any modifications!), though it's a bit uncomfortable (I plan to fix that by putting blankets under the mat) because of the mat's flimsyness.
20 minutes into today, the first day of this "resolution" and I was more out of breath than I thought I'd be, and having a damn good fun time.
I however, am discovering that a lot of the songs are too quick for even a beginner, on "light" mode.
What I'm after, and I hope I can get from you guys because you're experienced ddr players, is a comprehensive list of good, easy, yet somewhat challenging, beginner songs so that I can progress to the harder stuff.
Thanks all! |

If the songs are too quick for you, pay attention to the BPM of the song. For the most part, the slower the song, the easier it is (but this is not always the case, bag heavy will prove that.) Find songs with low BPMs, like around 100-130, and work your way up. Also, pay attention to the foot rating and groove radar of a song. The more feet a song has, the harder it is. I wish I could give you more advice, or a list of songs like you requested, but I am not familiar with the beginner or light stepcharts of most songs.
By the way, Extreme is not on the 360. It's on the PS2. |

I kinda figured BPM was what I thought it was, beats per minute.
Which ever one came out for the 360 is the one I got.
Thank you for all the advice you gave though. |

Ask in the stepmania board, you'll get more answers there _________________

Here are some songs I enjoy thoroughly and was able to beat within a couple weeks of starting (all on light mode)
1. Look to the Sky
2. Ordinary World
3. True. . . (radio edit)
4. The Shining Polaris
5. Irresistablement
I can't think of any others. It's been a long time now I guess.
Anyway, look for songs in the 130-150 bpm range rated at 1 or 2 feet. Look in the older mixes too. Light mode on SuperNOVA and new has become much harder to make room for beginner mode. Before Max2, people were fully expected to be able to start playing with just light mode without issue.
Also, don't bring your feet into the middle of the mat between steps. There's no penalty for hitting an arrow when there's nothing there, so feel free to leave your foot where it lands. It will also help freezes seem more natural for you when you get into those. _________________
