How good are people generally, when they complete their first Survival course? As in, how high a difficulty can they pass in normal play when they do so?

Personally, I've made it to the last song on Cohesion more than once, but I can't read the arrows properly on Drift. I've done some Expert 9's and one easy Expert 10, but nothing above that.

I think it really depends on someone's mod reading skills more than the actual limits a person has to pass a song. I can pass pretty much every song in ITG and I can't read mods worth crap.

...and on the other hand, I've passed half the Survival courses and I run out of gas on anything above a 10 (and, many 10s).

This is the truth. If you want to pass Survival, play more Marathon courses and get used to the mods.

I have a 99 average and have passed everything. The only survivals I'm missing are Slower (Energizer slowdown + sucking at 1x = ewww) and Decelerated.

*can't read Brake worth crap*

yuck, Decelerated...

I tried playing Liquid Moon Hard normally - first time, on 1.5x, I failed. Second try, on 2x, I got a B+. So I've still got a ways to go before I could actually complete that last one. I'm not trying it again until I can get an S on that and can read Drift better.

I have an S+ on an 8 (Cryosleep Hard) and today I got an A+ on a 9 (Remember December Hard.) A lot of survival courses have at least one song at that level, but no 10's.

HeavyD2, if you have an "S+ on an 8 (Cryosleep Hard)" and an "A+ on a 9 (Remember December Hard)", then I'm not really sure you're ready for Survival mode. Also, it's quite easy to get to the third or fourth songs in the Survival mode courses. However, unless you improve your FA, I guarantee you won't ever pass them.

To tell you the truth, although I have over three hundred 99's and 40+ quad stars, I can only pass a few of the Survival courses.

I agree with what some of the other people are saying - you should practice playing marathons. More importantly though, you need to get better at your FA. Good luck! biggrin.gif

For what it's worth, the first Survival I passed was Mirage. Wake Up as the last song with its mod set isn't too bad (I think it's like X2 Expand Fade Out or something).

But I agree, even if you can read the last songs, your FA is going to be a problem. I've failed Survivals with a 94.94 grade before. You really do have to be very accurate to get through the whole course.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the best scores I've got:

1-3: My FA drops off below four feet.
4: I have one ***, but usually don't play that low.
5: I have some **'s and many *'s.
6: I have a few **'s and quite a few *'s.
7: I have a few *'s, and some S+'s.
8: I've *'d Cryosleep now, but my next best score is only a straight S.
9: My best is still only an A+, with some A's and A-'s. This is the highest difficulty songs in Survival go to.

I've tried Robot, and after two songs I had over 40 seconds left!! I failed the third though, thanks to Fade Out and the weird notes at the beginning. After playing through it normally, then putting it on Robot and then Fade Out, I made it through that one on Survival with not a lot of time left. I couldn't make it through the fourth one though, with both Drift AND Dizzy.

So I hope you realize that I can get *'s and **'s on many Medium songs.

EDIT: Perhaps I need to get some more 10's and a few 11's under my belt, then the 8's and 9's will seem easier and I'll be able to FA them better. So I guess if your maximum song-passing capacity is only 9, you're not going to be able to do any Survival course with anything on Hard.

Yeah, and then you have me, I had a 63 on Tribal Style when I passed Charlene.

In any case, I say it's too early for survival as well. At least try to get like Tribal Style or QoL down.
