I was thinking of upgrading my pad to either a hard pad like a RedOctane Ignition or just biting the bullet and getting a metal pad like a BlueShark. The question I have is all videos I've seen of people using metal pads like BlueShark or CobaltBlue the users are wearing shoes. At my place we usually take our shoes off indoors so I would be playing on the metal pad barefoot (or maybe in socks). Is it a bad idea to pick up a metal pad if this is how I will be playing? Just curious if this is going to beat up my feet... E2.gif

its all personal preference. the faster your feet go, the bigger the chance that you will scuff over a metal bar on the pad and stubb your toe. i play with shoes when i use a metal pad. but that's just me.

I find that I get tired a lot faster wearing socks on metal because you need to put a lot more effort into avoiding slipping... i play in bare feet.

thanks for that eloquent contribution to the thread. have you ever played in socks on a metal pad? you have to use your inner thigh muscles to supply the force that usually comes from friction on your feet. maybe "get tired faster" isnt the best way to put it... but you definitely cant react as quickly. Go play a 9 footer in socks and then barefeet and tell me bare feet doesnt get you a better score.

I play 10, 11, 12 footers and keyboard songs with socks. I couldn't play barefoot because there's a high possibility of my cutting my feet and also there's far too much traction. Your feet practically stick to the mat.

this.

I 98'd hardcore of the north in my socks, not a problem at all, but if you want to slip in your own foot sweat, that's your problem.

c'mon, guys. it was a simple question that was asked. some play with bare feet. some play with socks. it's all preference... if you feel the need to mock some one else's opinion, go elsewhere.

This.

I don't want to sound like a mini-mod, but that's just Devout's opinion, and you should respect that and not try to change/mock it.

Ontopic- Uh, I play with socks when I'm lazy enough to not get my shoes.

If you ask me, no one should ever use bare feet on a metal pad. I tried it once on my CF and stopped a few steps in because I hit a screw. And nearly everyone who does it stops sooner or later because they get tired of cutting their feet on edges/screws.

Yeah, for a metal pad barefoot is a bad idea. Socks are ok, depending on what pad your on. You'll go through a few pairs, but personally I find some harder songs easier in socks.

i always played with tennis shoes on. in my socks it felt slippery at times and since my now broken metal pad had screws that stuck out, i didn't want to trip and cut up my feet. plus if you are sweating heavily in bare feet that could get slippery as well.

I play in socks... they are pretty slick on my devout design pad when my socks are totally dry but once I start to sweat a little the traction is pretty good. Playing barefoot I'd have more traction until I started to sweat. My pad isn't a risk of cutting my feet, but stepping on the rounded bolts I put in it can hurt sometimes.

The amount of energy used to keep your balance is a pretty big deal, try walking on wet ice some time... especially if it's not level like a hockey rink, you'll understand quickly what it means.

I made Stoli's chrome pad, and I play barefoot simply because socks slip too much on the Lucite, and I don't want to scuff it with shoes.

Better have a grippy pad or grippy socks if you're going to play on a metal pad.

I'd say you'll be fine unless you try someting really hard. I've occasionally played barefoot on my Cobalt Flux pad and didn't have too much trouble. I'd personally recommend against it, but hey, it's your pad/feet/life.
