Okay, since it needs to be quick, I'll be brief, and hope you're quick on the uptake.

Upload a song. Use Stepmania's "Stepmania Tools and Package Exporter" to do this.

Go to 'create/sync songs' in the menu. Go to 'my creations'. Choose the song, the level of difficulty your planned steps will be, and hit 'create from blank'.

It'd be a good idea to find the BPM of the song with an outside program, like Mixmeister (I'm not sure how great it is, it's just an example), if you don't already know the BPM. Set the BPM with the appropriate keys (I think it's F7/8, but I might be wrong; it'll tell you.)

To actually put in the steps, select a few measures with the space bar, hit enter, and go to 'record in selection'.

Play the steps by choosing 'play selection'. You can turn on assist tick by hitting escape and going to 'song options'.

That enough? Need more?

On the Stepmania Tools and Packages Exporter I can't find anything that allows me to get a song into SM, I looked on the SM site and there was a tutorial there but there's only 3 options instead of the 5 it showed, no place to get songs into the game, that's really what I need help with....

on 3.95, i don't think you can do this (not sure though)

if you're on 3.9, open the program folder, and go into a CTL File called "smzip". the last button on the list says "Create Song", and go from there. (it'll end up in the songs folder in "My Creations")

or...

download a random simfile, delete everything in the file itself1 (using notepad), but not the file itself. copy and paste it into folders containing the song files, then go into SM edit mode and save the file.

1- or if you want to, delete everything under the main information (delete the steps)

I tried opening the .ctl file and it says it can't open it by default

And yeah I'm using 3.9

EDIT: Tried the latter option and got it to work, then got a BPM finder, and wow it was WAY off E10.gif

But then I found the speed on my own (hopefully, I got through a few measures perfectly.)

Sorry for another double, but I have a few little things I need to know.

How do you select the level of difficulty? (foot-wise)

and

Could somebody find a good BPM finder program?

That's probably the last I'll need

One, after having tried Mixmeister, I can say it honestly sucks. As for a good one... not sure. Google it, I guess.

To select the level of difficulty: after you go to 'create/sync songs' and you choose your song, go down until you reach where it shows the difficulty, and use an arrow key to bring it to the desired difficulty setting (beginner/easy/medium/hard/challenge/edit).

Or: you can edit it in the actual thing by hitting escape and going to 'edit step statistics'. That's also where you choose the actual foot number for your song (where it says 'meter').

Is that good, or am I confusing you more?

Yeah I tried Mixmeister, it was off by a good 20 BPM

I'll try that second thing, should work biggrin.gif

Thanks.
Still no clue as to why I can't use the other way you described E19.gif

Really?

Not this?

I'm almost positive I have the same version as you... I wonder what's going on.

Only the top three on that appear...

anywho, I got a bit farther, I'm about a minute into the song, and I've ranked it at 13 for the time being.
Note: DO NOT PLAY at normal speed first time, I recommend one of the set speed modifiers

I wonder wtf is wrong with my game though?

A 13 for the time being?

Well, I guess I'm not trying this on the pad anytime soon. blink.gif

Geez, my first chart was a seven. (A darn good seven, too.) disturb.gif

This MIGHT work, but I'm not guaranteeing anything: you could try re-installing Stepmania. When something screwed with my themes (and I couldn't even get Stepmania to START UP it was so bad), I just re-installed the game (all the stuff was still there) and it was fixed. If something just screwed with your tools & package exporter menu, then maybe that'd fix it. If it came like that, I dunno what to tell you, except keep doing it the way the other guy said.

Oh no, it won't be padable to the slightest degree

See, I work a lot in edit mode on the console games so I have a ton of experience.

Really to cam make ANY song into a 10 footer or above with every not being on the main rhythm, but then layering it so it makes it a lot harder.

Like, the other day, on ANGELUS on Supernova 2 I made a chart that follows all the lyrics plus one other rhythm of the song, turned out a really nice 10 footer that wasn't anything insane.

Good luck trying to pad this. Anybody who can even A it on keyboard with out any options has my props.

Wow, I should stop talking now.
