9 foots are catastrophics i believe, im not sure if any 9s are more "catastrophic" than others. I know there are some 9s which are pieces of cake and others like Cartoon Heros which are =0

If you ask me, a catastrophic song is tiring and complex throughout the duration of the song with one final stream at the end. Two examples of this would be SMMMO and Paranoia Respect.

Catastrophic is the name historically given to pre-5thMIX 9 footers. That is all. All 9's were called Catastrophic back in 3rdMIX and 4thMIX (I'm not sure of this I haven't played a 4thMIX) days. Nothing more.

As someone who started his DDR career in 4thMIX Solo, it didn't have names for the foot levels.

Yes, it's been last used on 3rdMIX

And Exotic Ethnic. It's an easy song to read, but you have to have stamina for that. I hate the last part. E13.gif

Yeah, I'd consider that catastrophic.

And HVAM now that I think about it.

Only Catas are 9-footers. Most of the songs you've mentioned are 10 footers and beyond catas.

Uhhh...way to contribute >_>.

But as stated, Catastrophic was the name give to DDR 3rd mix 9s. IIRC, that's the only mix to have that name, as that was the debut of 9 footers. DDR USA AC/PS1 also had name titles, DDR USA PS1 had two 9s (Dynamite Rave and Afronova, 5 total if you count doubles).

From what i've heard, one of the UMs also carried the foot names, which is where the title "Apocalyptic" for 10 footers came from...but someone would have to confirm that for me :/.

I know, I was specifying songs that I thought were catastrophic , not catas themselves.

A cata is any song that has more than 300 steps and was played before the year 2001.

Some 9's are pretty hard, like HVAM. Some are easy, like PARANOiA KCET(which I think should be an 8-footer/exuberant?). It's actually pretty relative to your skill level.

I agree, KCET should be an 8. I also agree that HVAM is hard, though stamina wise, since the steps are easy (in my opinion). At the end of HVAM I am often about as tired as after MAX 300 (though that might just apply to people who play the same way I do)

I don't see how so many people get tired from HVAM. Orion.78 civilization mix is more draining (and technical). I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet.

That's probably because no one plays it. I forgot about it myself until you mentioned it.

You have to be batshit insane to call the steps to Orion Civ "fun."
