I'm also deciding between Cobalt Flux and Blue Shark. I emailed both a few days ago inquiring about their products. I only got a response from MyMyBox. It seems that Cobalt Flux does not care about its customers. Is this true? |

I have a BlueShark. It's a very good pad, other than the fact that you MIGHT get a faulty control box, like I did. I've played on a Cobalt Flux before, and while it is a good pad, it's not as good as a BlueShark. Both pads are really good though. It just depends if you want completely insane durability without the arcade feel (Cobalt Flux), or pretty good durability and the most arcade like experience possible (BlueShark). |

BlueShark has great service until you buy from them. Cobalt Flux is completely the opposite. You should get decent service after buying a CF, but they won't bother sending you more than a sentence or two saying almost nothing otherwise.
It depends on what you're looking for in the pad, really. _________________

Can someone explain to me what exactly is the "arcade experience?" I rarely play on arcade machines because it's not worth it (50 cents a song), but I would not mind knowing what exactly is the arcade experience being talked about around here.
How long is each pad expected to last if they are maintained properly?
Do the pads come out of the box ready to play? Or do they need to be assembled? If the latter, how long does it take to assemble it if you are not handy? Do you need any special tools? |

Besides a screwdriver, you should not need any tools to "assemble" any pads you buy. If your pad has a bar, you'll need to attach that, but if not, all you will have to do is remove some weird white or blue film from all the panels and it's ready to play.
The arcade experience includes a few things:
1. Backlit buttons
2. Excellent response
3. Recessed arrows (~1/8")
4. no sliding
5. sturdy bar
Maintained properly, a Cobalt Flux should last basically forever. A BlueShark, I don't know, but they should be able to last 5-8 years. _________________

The Solomode hasn't gotten very good reviews. I wouldn't go for it personally, but it's your call. Personally, if I were in your situation, I would get a cheap pad (read: mod a soft pad) and keep the rest of my money until I had enough for a BlueShark or CF, or the DT200 came out. I'm assuming you're not up to building your own? _________________

If a game comes out for the "Next Gen" systems, and either BlueShark/CF start making pads that are compatible with these Next Gen systems, would that mean I have to buy a new pad just so I can play newer games? Or can I buy something much cheaper to add on? |

The pads have nothing but a breadboard chip in them. The control box is the only thing you'd have to replace. _________________

I'm a complete beginner and I want to get two dance pads. I've decided I'm going to buy two soft mats and hard-mod them (the simple way: plywood underneath and hardwood flooring cover on top).
What is the best soft mat to use for hard-modding?
Sorry guys, I swear tried not to ask any dumbass questions that scream "I didn't read the stickies!" I've done a lot of reading over the past couple of days (mostly on this site) but it still left me wanting some concrete opinions. Obviously certain people will prefer one brand and others will prefer a different one, but there's been so much contradiction I just ended up feeling a little lost and very confused.
Thanks a ton in advance for any and all help. |

Try to get a couple of the ones that come in the bundles if you can. Those are the most consistent and recognised soft pads. I'd recommend you simply try to find a couple bundles on sale, each with a different version with them. Buying from 3rd parties can be a bit risky, even when they are listed as "official" pads. _________________

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new metal pad, because my BlueShark is really starting to piss me off. I've narrowed my choices down to 2. Should I get a Cobalt Flux or TX-6000? I know that CF's take a long time to arrive, and I'm really impatient when it comes to waiting for something to arrive. And I hear that TX-6000's are good, but I also hear that the bars really suck and break easily. So should I wait a while for a CF, or should I get a TX-6000 and make my own bar for it? |

It gives me random misses, when I know I'm hitting the arrows. I got a new control box, but that didn't help at all. And the screws on the arrows come undone really easily. |

So, do you like the feel, just not the misses? If so, go with teh tx-6000. If the feel pisses you off too, go with a CF.
