Hey i see that there are used cobalt fluxes being sold on ebay. they would cost a lot less( $60-$100) to purchase than a new pad, but does anyone know if you think buy used? can they still work after being used, for example, three years? does anyone have experience buying a CF pad on ebay? i really want a cobalt flux but i don't want to get ripped off and regret getting a used pad.

Perhaps this isn't the right place, but I'm looking to do a little market research--I own a Christmas '06 Flux (~7 months old) and am opening up to the idea of selling it. My brother has built 2 homemade pads and acts all insulted when I choose the Flux over his blood, sweat, and tears, plus I'm playing at the arcade more regularly now. It's seen very little play, since I only really used it regularly for a period of about a month (in fact, I haven't played on it in over 2 months), mostly with 9-blocks. I've never had a problem with weird pad-misses or random firing (in fact, I can regularly *** songs), and the control box is in perfect order. Also, I've made NO modifications to it whatsoever. Oh and it's been on hardwood since Day 1, so there's no imperfections in the baseboard.

So, what could I feasibly get for this beast? I live around Dallas and really don't want to be responsible for shipping it. How much would shipping it cost anyway? Also, to assuage "used pad feelings" above, would it be a good idea to post an up-to-date video of me ***-ing something? Finally, would eBay be a better market than these forums biggrin.gif ?

You could sell it on eBay and expect somewhere between 200-250 for it. Shipping it about 30-40 dollars if it's in the US, most likely. You would need to take pictures of it. You could also sell it on here, but would have to expect to make probably somewhere between 30 and 50 dollars less. The fact that it's a Christmas '06 might throw some people off, as there was talk of cheap quality during that period of time (and the beginning of 07).

Quick questions:

1) People who have gotten post-June 21 pads: How are they in terms of quality? Are they better than the Christmas '06 pads?

2) Is it possible to get a GameCube control box, since they confirmed that the Wii DDR games will use the GameCube controller ports?

i don't think anyone has gotten any pads after June 21st... well if there have been people that have ordered theirs since then and gotten them then there is a massive problem because I ordered mine June 4th and when I email cobalt flux they tell me it's "about ready to go out".

1. Everyone I have heard has said the quality has returned to normal. The reason for poor quality was that they tried to find an alternate parts supplier when they ran out.

2. They don't make GameCube control boxes, and I don't know that they will any time soon. Look how long it took them to make a USB port (they finally made one inadvertently by making the 360 box). Not to mention that because they just made the 360 box they probably wouldn't redesign the box anytime soon when they're already having problems supplying said boxes fast enough.

Yeah, I've read horror stories about Christmas pads, but mine seems pretty flawless--guess I got lucky.

In fact, this lapse in company quality really benefited me--I had only ordered (and paid for) an arcade mod for a homebuilt pad, and they sent it to me with an entire pad attached (that's why I don't really care if I sell it). It was all very strange, because even FedEx listed the shipping weight as five pounds, even though it took two men to haul the package to my door. Alas, the mod still wasn't all-black like I asked--plus, it took them months to ship the Lexan panels I had ordered at the same time! Oh well. After getting it for the price of an arcade mod, $200 seems awesome to me. E4.gif

What do you mean "360" control boxes? As far as I know, the USB plug on the new control boxes is not recognized by an Xbox 360.

I emailed CF in June because I bought two XFPS converters because someone on this board said they work with CFs. They do not - at least not with mine. They work fine with my Red Octane V2 Ignitiona pdas, but when hooked up to my CF control boxes, they do not register at all with the console. In desperation I emailed CF (those things are like $80 a piece) to try and figure out why they would not be working and I got an email back saying that they hadn't heard of those converters and were not aware of anyone having gotten them to work with CFs AND that there was currently no CF compatibility with the 360 and Cobalt Flux. Thus, I have been playing Universe with my Ignition pad.

Please clarify what you mean by "360" box.

Additionally, has anyone actually gotten an XFPS to work with their CF pad??? If so, how old is your pad/control box - does it have just a PS2 hook up on it, or does it have a USB connector also?

My control boxes are about two and a half years old.

The new control box's USB plug is supposed to be for the 360. That's what everyone's been saying. Getting it to work on a computer requires the download of the same driver you use to get a 360 controller to work on PC.

That's the quick version. The old CF forums had a more detailed process, which I reproduced to the best of my memory here. As I mention there, it's fairly time-consuming (But simple), so I don't do it particularly often.

Beats the hell out of the ruler and cloth method they recommend.

Regardless of what may or may not have been Cobalt Fluxes intent in adding a USB plug to the latest control box, the usb plug cb that was released around Christmas most certainly does not work with an Xbox 360. Therefore, calling it a 360 control box is misleading.

AFAIK CF still has not paid MS to license the recognition technology that is required to connect a wired controller to the 360. Unless, as I noted, they made a recent change that includes the little Xbox 360 "X" button that allows transfer between the game and the dashboard, then there is no native 360 capability for the CF and the 360.

From a June 28 email I received from CF when inquiring about using the XFPS adapter with a CF:

Quote:
Hi,

Up till today, I have not had one customer tell me they have used these adapters with their Cf pads. You are the first to mention this. As for right now our pads are not compatible with the Xbox 360. If you have any further questions feel free to ask!

Thank you!

Please note - this indicates that not only are the CF's not natively 360 compatible but also that Coblat Flux is not aware of any CF adapter compatibility with the XFPS - I am still waiting for someone to verify that they have gotten CFs working with an XFPS because I bought 2 and they do not work with the CFs (although they work perfectly fione with my Red Octane Ignitions which I had not used since 2004 after getting my CFs).

I'm just relaying what people have told me. I don't have the control box or a 360 to verify either of these things. Everyone was just saying it was a 360 control box.

EDIT: I got my email reply. They said my mat should be ready to ship next week. I'll update with whether they actually commit to this or just jostle me around for weeks.

I got a response, as well.

I asked them why the website said 3 weeks to ship and receive, and how's my order coming along.

They said this:

Quote:
Hi,

I apologize for the FAQ having that information on there. It was changed
awhile ago, but for some reason our website has it on there every so often.
As for the time your order will be ready: from the date you order to the
date you will receive your order takes around 4 to 6 weeks. We build each
pad per order that comes in. This way we can make sure you are getting a
quality product! If you have any further questions feel free to ask! Also
your order will be going out shortly!

Thank you for your understanding!

IMO, I doubt they even looked at my order. But I'll trust them for now. E10.gif

I ordered on June 27. There have been discrepancies with orders. Someone on ITG Freak recently got their mat a week after ordering, while other people have been waiting for almost 2 months. If I get jostled around alot, I'll just cancel my order and buy a used one for cheaper off Ebay. If I do this, I could get the remaining sum from my parents and buy an MP3 player or something (I gave them the cash I got for my birthday and they were paying for what was left over).

I ordered mine june 4th and every week they give me a message like "I've reviewed your order and it's going to be ready to ship this week" so I don't know if your pad will actually be coming or not when they told you.
