I'll soon be moving out of my parents' home and moving into an apartment (I'm not sure what floor in the apartment I would be in - probably not on the ground floor though).

Can you guys play DDR in your apartments or does it disturb your neighbors? I think the stomping might disturb my neighbors not the music itself. Is there a type of pad that doesn't make as much noise? I have a Cobalt Flux, an Ignition, and a cheap $20 soft pad.

Thanks for your help.

If you have a PS2 mix, like Max, or Max2, then I'm sure that you have (or haven't) seen the big bold text: BE CAREFUL OF YOUR NEIGHBORS WHILE PLAYING DDR or something like that. HEED THAT WARNING! Play DDR your first day there, then ask your neighbors if you "disturbed them while playing", or something along those lines.

Unless you live on the bottom floor, it's not going to happen. First year in my apartment I spent living on bottom floor with my room next to the hallway so that stomping on a hard pad wasn't bothering anyone. The next year was on the third floor. Everything I tried didn't muffle the noise or vibration to the room downstairs. You might be good on a soft pad playing easy songs though. Your best bet would be to play at a friend's house or play at a local arcade.

There is a locked thread in the Bemani Controllers section that talks about this same thing.

Yeah, I live in a duplex, and my neighbors get freaked out.

It's impossible for it not to. I played at home for quite a while because my downstairs neighbor was very understanding... it wasn't until she put the apartment on the market and complained that I was putting cracks in the new plaster on her ceiling that I had to stop.

I live in a downstairs apartment, and use an Ignition. Nobody has complained so far (except for family members, saying I play DDR too much E15.gif). But when I lived in an upstairs apartment about 3 years ago, cranky old people always complained that there's too much noise, even though I was using an Ignition and I wasn't stomping hard. Then again, cranky old people complain about everything.

If you're going to use an Ignition pad make sure it's on a hard surface.

The noise of the pad flapping up and down, etc. gets annoying fast.

If the neighbors complain, just say you are having sex with your girlfriend or something. Then they will just shut up.

I should try that sometime. Sounds like a legit excuse. E10.gif

But yeah. I don't even live in apartment, and my neighbors still have a hissy fit. >>;;

I can't play in my house period. I live in a mobile home.... and even when I walk, it's very noticeable.
