|
|
Thanks for viewing my post. I've picked up a copy of Ultimix 4 plus the official pre-packaged dance pad. That got me excited to use my Red Octane pad to play this game with two players. But the dance pad is giving me what looks like a very consistent software glitch.
The game basically fails my dance every time I enter gameplay. Without gradually lowering in value, the dance bar flashes red across it's right half section, then I'm failed from the dance with the expected E ranking. In practice mode it simply ejects me back one screen to the music selection menu. This error persists even is I unplug the mat, then re-plug it after gameplay has began. All four ports where tested.
What's confusing is that it works fine for menu selection and previous DDR games. It breezed through Ultimix 2 (before that game got scratched) and is still error free on Ultimix 1. The game pad DDR 4 came with functions fine in both Ultimix 1 and 4. Has anyone else encountered this error?

Well, considering you don't even know the correct title of the game you are playing, it would be safe to say you have no clue what you're doing. It is most likely the dance pad you are using, not "Ultimix". I suggest talking to RedOctane. |

In Europe, the game is called Dancing Stage Ultimix, for your information. Stuck-up prick. |

What I'm saying here is that the simple act of plugging in my dance pad causes the game to fail. It's as if when the music starts, My fourth game doesn't like the dance pad and simply "ejects" me from the game. I'm wondering what could cause that. And this dance pad does work, because I've tried it on other dance games besides the one that fails. |

Maybe the select or triangle button is stuck? |

Might well be. A few tests using both the second dance pad and Xbox controller confirm the back will eject you from a game . I assume Select = Back in this controllers terms. The most straight forward answer is to simply remove select from this equation by cutting the wires. Of course, it's hard to undo a decision like that. Anyone here ever cut their wiring on a pad before? |

Select will almost always equal back if you hold it down. I'm about 100% sure you will not have to cut those wires, or at least you shouldn't do so now. There is a solution that is less drastic. |

Well, further tests reveal that holding back on a regular controller has the duplicate effect. This behavior is consistent across other tested games with the back button held down for each particular game. (including non DDR games like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. In that scenario it simply does nothing.) So the select button is either not responding and we have a pad glitch, or more likely the button is stuck.
I don't need a select button to play DDR. All the other buttons work fine, so I'd rather ditch the back option and use everything else that is working. My one question is if cutting the select wires will deaden the command. I only know the theory on how these things are built. So I think it will disable the back command, but would like to confirm that before putting it under the scissors. lol |

if you really wanna disconnet the wiring, dont cut it, maybe you'll want it again someday.
if the wiring works the same on these as it does in a softpad(i havent seen the innards of a foam pad pcb), just find which connection is "select", and peel the plastic back so it's not touching anymore. tif there is actually wiring, unsolder _________________

Sorry to put you guys back a step, but this isn't a stuck button. I just put my pad under the knife and temporarily disabled the select step. The fourth DDR Ultimix game still reacted the same way. Thus, it still thinks back button is being pertinently held down.
I tried hooking the dance pad up to my computers PS2 to USB cable for testing the input. All the buttons are working on command, including the re-activated select button.
All I can think of remaining is that the Xbox adapter plug is mis-wired, or there's a break somewhere in the circuitry. From what I know, DDR does not scan for any dance pad brands. |

IIRC, this is the same guy that supposedly apoligized to the forums, stating that he'll "try not to be an buttocks[/i]hole again." _________________

The DDR games for XBOX actually do search for a mat. They do this to allow the corners to be disabled. And also, when you're online people can tell from it whether you're using a controller or a mat. And if it's identified as a controller they will shout "CONTROLLER WHORE!"
But I don't know if it works the same way with Ultimix. |

The problem's a short in the chip. Some kind of filament is making a connection you don't want, or the controller's little binary processing chip is tweaking. Contact your vendor to get it replaced. If they won't replace it, contact RedOctane. Make sure you have your receipt handy. If you actually cut your pad anywhere, you probably will not be able to get it replaced. _________________

That would be the best course of action. Unfortunately, it's way past it's exploration date. What's a little frustrating is that the pad isn't straight up rejected by my game. If I could just shut off the back button reset on the pad or game I'd be dancing with it.
And the problem likely isn't with the pressure pads themselves. I looked at them personally and tested them through my PC. They know when they are contacting and sepperated. |

It really does sound like a computation error here. The only way I can think of to fix this unless you have mad haxorz skilz is to take the original chip out and replace it with something, like a softpad chip. _________________
