From here on out I propose that we all just call it Alice.

To those who don't know, Alice is the character in the EX/EX2 Sakura videos.

This is pathetic.

Sa 「さ」
Pronounced "Sah"

Ku 「く」
Pronounced "Koo"

Ra 「ら」
Pronounced "Rah"

And so you get さくら or 桜

EDIT: as for the tense on each syllable, they're all the same. It's Japanese. Unlike English, their language actually makes sense. The Caucasian /sa KER a/ is complete crap. In Japanese, they don't have short vowels, long vowels, umlauts, or any of that European bullshit. They don't have pronunciations in their dictionaries because hiragana and katakana characters can only be pronounced one way.

You should really get such severe dyslexia checked out.
Actually, I think that qualifies as illiteracy.

Good idea.

Although I'd say renaming Drop Out to "God Damn it Fred Why'd You Puch Me Out of the Plane?" is more worthwhile. (the guy totally looks like he just got pushed out of a plane.)

Okay, you're right.

They simply don't have 14 different ways to pronounce every vowel.

How is this thread still alive?

Sah-Koo-Rah.

Just pronounce the three syllables that make up the word the way they're meant to be pronounced.

Saa koo ra

Japanese people have the tendoncy to like saying all the vowels. Everyone in the world has their Vowels... A, I, U,E,O while the united states... have it A,E,I,O,U in acordance to the alphabet. If you're learning japanese Sakura will probably have a longer a in the Sa. Japanese people can't pronounce L cause it's not in their hirangana.

Aside from all this stuff;

mikes wrote:

Not quite. It's spelled 'R' in their romanization of their words, etc, but really it's pronounced like an r and an l together. Like in Spanish, but not exactly. You know how you go from a puckered position to a more horizontal-type deal when you say "rah", and you have your mouth open and move your tongue top to bottom when you do the "la" sound? You somewhat combine those two actions. You start from a puckered position, tongue moves from top to bottom, and you end up at the same mouth position you would for "rah."

Apologies for the tl;dr or whatever.

Yeah, you beat me to it.
That's why in translation the l and r get confused, because they have one sound that sounds like a combination of l and r. I once made a comic about it for a caption thread on another forum.
