I've been playing DDR for at least three years and I'm no where near as good as some of the people I've seen online...I think. What I do is play just about every song, simply pass it (usually an A on heavy), and move on to another. I've been playing mostly Max 2. I've played all of those songs numerous times just because I replay them the next day or whenever.
But for those guys who clear songs like MAX 300 on Heavy and get a AAA, do they only do those songs over and over again so they can memorize the steps, or do they do all the other songs too, or have they done all the other ones and only crazy hard songs are the ones challenging enough to do? |

Basically the way I always looked at it, you need to get good at timing in general first.(say get your great count on a song down to less than 5 or 10) after that the AAA isn't so difficult to get. You'l just have to play it a few times until you work out all the tricky parts in your head and finally get a perfect run through it. Memorization of a stepchart is barely useful, memorization of patterns(most of which occur in tons of songs) is very useful. |

The most correct response you gave would probably be the last one. If a person can get a AAA on MAX300, chances are he/she's AAA'd most of the other songs in the game, so it gives the person no satisfaction in aiming for a higher score (since there is none) on a 5- or 6-footer. _________________

The way you get an AAA is by having timing. Don't ask me what it's like, I don't know, but that's what you're gonna need. _________________

NO ONE MEMORIZES A WHOLE SONG TO GET BETTER, CAUSE IT WON"T MAKE THEM BETTER. Just remember that, cause I hate it when people are like, "You must have memorized that". Seriously, memorizing a song doesn't have anything to do with having a good PA. Anyways I'm done. _________________

Actually, people need to memorize Chaos, Max 300, and MaxX Unlimited to get better in them, though they don't need to memorize the same thing for each. There isn't a lot of memorization needed, but if you memorize the stops in Chaos, then you can play it fluently. For the Maxs, if you memorize the beat (not the steps) that is being held during the pause, you would be prepared for the sudden speed up.
Like I said, you don't need to study a song's steps like a New York Regents exam, but if you remember the important things in some songs you're bound to AAA. _________________

If you call remembering to count 2 measures memorizing. _________________
