Anyway, I went to a place called Woodie Woodchucks (similar to Chuck-E-Cheese's), to play Pump it Up (it was an Exceed 2 machine) at the arcade for the first time, and I have to say - I really didn't enjoy it that much. =\

Sure, 33 cents a game was pretty alright but the pads seemed sensitive in menus and everything, but when I played - I seemed to get random misses and everything. (Probably because I wasn't stepping right though because I don't play PIU...=\) I also felt that the bar positioning/grip was really uncomfortable because I had to stretch right out to get the UL and UR panels.

Also, I had no idea if I had passed a song or not because I could have sworn my life bar was 100% down, yet I got an A at the results screen. =\

Pump it Up is confusing...

I feel like it's easier to get an A on a song in PIU, but the windows between D, C, B, and A aren't very big. S is only when you get no misses, so no AA or AAAs in PIU.

Also, in most arcades, you WON'T fail a song if your life bar goes down in your FIRST round. This first round is provided, so that you can smash a difficult song without worrying about your life bar. In your second, third, and bonus rounds... Stage Break will fail you if your lifebar drops... however, if Stage Break is off... PIU functions like the above poster said. So yeah, PIU will give you an evaluation... unlike Stepmania and ITG, where a fail happens the minute your lifebar dies. See? PIU is still nice to you sometimes. E10.gif

About the rest of the stuff... it sounds like you just need to get used to the PIU layout and then you'll do a lot better... a nice thing would just be to go after EASIER songs, since, despite being easy, they are actually a lot of fun and will help you get you used to the layout without feeling like the Grim Reaper is coming after you. If I, a PIU player who played PIU way before DDR, managed to get acquainted with DDR/ITG enough to do ITG 11s and DDR 10s... I'm sure you can go the other way too.

Finally, Exceed 2, while nice, IMHO, just isn't quite as good as the later versions (with even more fun songs)... but it was still enjoyable when we played it and added some fun songs to the list (like U and Foxy Lady).

Well, I started playing Pump (NX) two weeks ago at the arcade I work at. I've noticed that the transition from DDR to Pump is pretty easy (except for crossovers). Still not used to the color consistency of each arrow, so I've been playing on 3x a lot.

Anyway, I A'd Monkey Fingers CZ yesterday, and was wondering how the hell you hit something like DL, C, and DR at the same time in the time you have (1/4 note @~210 bpm?)

I had the best time ever tonight at D&B in Westbury. There were alot of good players there and we had big crowds. That's the way I like to play.
If any of you guys who were there tonight (Sat. 4.21.07) decide to get together again please let me know cause that was awesome. You guys are really really good. I was the little blonde kid Jason. E1.gif

Triples are hard to master, and I still have a ton of trouble with them. If they come in with lots of other notes, it's best to straddle your two feet, hitting hard enough with one foot so that the arch of your shoe hits the bracket. If done correctly, your heel should hit one of the corner arrows (depening on the triple), the ball of your foot should hit the center, and then you have your second foot to hit the third arrow. For songs like Dignity, or whenever else you have triple freezes, you pretty much have to go down; it's impossible to keep the freeze held down if you straddle, so you will usually fail. Hope this helps. E1.gif

Still can't get to a good Zero machine or an NX at all. I've been stuck to the occasional Chuck E. Cheese's adventure, with those f*ing brats. But I passed Dignity CZ with 145 misses...lol. But I'm still improving I suppose. I'm trying to get better at Liadz...>_>. I might start playing NM soon, too. I <3 Pump. E1.gif

ok guys, there was the piu exceed pad and game bundle at electronics boutique for 25 bucks, so today i HAD to get it... even though i never played pump before.

Now i have had good experiences with 4 panel (over 40 expert ***'s and plenty AAA's)

Now keep in mind that this is still my first day playing pump, but just before... i got all perfects on 2 hard songs... hard as in the difficulty.... and i am really close to passing my first crazy(?... sorry, whatever comes after hard)

so am i progressing as well as others who started off with 4 panel?

If you have that many AAAs and ***s, I think you'll have stamina for at least lvl 15 or above, once you master the art of the M-run and dealing with turns and twists... a nice way to get a good grasp of those is to play Pump Me Amadeus Hard in the PS2 version... or if you have a newer arcade version nearby, Moonlight Hard. Those are two songs that will challenge your basics...

But I think you might be too strong of a player for even those songs, considering your accomplishments in DDR/ITG.

The thing is, i can pass some 13's on crazy, but still fail some 7-9s on hard, i guess some step patterns come easier than others?

Well, the thing that differentiates PIU from ITG/DDR is the fact that almost all of the charts require the ability to twist and flow, which means you can't double step your way through every difficult chart in the game... you MUST twist to get an M-run (DL,UL,C,UR,DR or other variants) or you must spin to pass songs like So on Crazy. It takes practice to learn the more difficult step formations... but it'll be easier to practice Hard Mode to solidify those basics so you can pound them in the tougher modes... not to mention the fact that some Hard Mode charts, though easy, are a lot of fun! (See: Beethoven Virus HD or We Are HD)

Anyway, good luck... I think you'll do just fine. E1.gif

For those of you NorCal people (aka Miklotov) who were interested in that PIU/dancing game people club:

We're in a tight spot, since the club's gotta be up by the 30th of May!

On Pump It Up: Exceed for the Xbox, how does Step Editor allow one to dance to songs on his or her own hard drive? I downloaded the feature just now and all I can do is edit songs already on the game itself. Sure, I had fun taking Forever Love and making it hard as heck (how ironic, it's the easiest song in the game) but I really wanted to dance to my own songs, considering how I make music for www.vgmix.com. I mean, I only got the Xbox version just so I could do that, knowing very well I couldn't be able to dance to Canon-D (frown.gif).

Sorry for the double post.

According to yyr57695's walkthrough at GameFAQS, it says:

Edit Mode supports custom soundtracks, so you can create Pump steps to ANY song you can put on your Xbox!!

One problem: I can only edit songs on the PIU game itself and I can't figure out how to use Edit Mode on the songs on my hard drive. Help please!

I played Pump It Up for about a month before my arcade took it away. During that time I got to hard mode and I was really enjoying the new game. I was angry to find out that they took it away because our broken DDR machine was making more buisness because it was much easier for the new players.

Hey, how is the PC version of Pump NX? As in, how arcade-accurate is it? I have the chance to install it, but I don't want to waste the hard drive space if it sucks.

There isn't an official PC version of PIU NX. What you're referring to is a hack of Prex 3 PC with NX songs... it won't be the same as the arcade, considering certain bugs exist in Prex 3 PC that will affect scoring in the new NX stepcharts.
