Proving you wrong. I was actually the one that got my boyfriend into DDR.

Doesn't hurt to look... love.gif

Guessing bigger = more hurt? Probly explains why most of the girls I know who are awesome at DDR are A or B cups...

Bouncing balls can hurt sometimes too. Hurray for tighty whiteys.

So, how did the story go? Just saw DDR in the arcade, and decided to have a go?

Pretty much. I had played in an arcade once and asked for it for my birthday. I got into it because it was awesome, and stayed into it because I lost 65 lbs... now I just stay into it to try and own the guys. No one likes to get beaten by a girl E13.gif

Is there anything medical (Ie: brain differences and such) or social that prevents females from enjoying this sport?

I don't expect scientific studies quoted here, but what are some of your thoughts?

Oh right, because a "scientific study" can magically explain why they don't play.

Maybe because it's a videogame? Maybe because it's nerdy and it makes you look stupid? Maybe they're not as competitive?

Posts like these irritate the everliving shit out of me. People on forums like these where the central focus is a nerdy game are generally nerdier than the majority of those that play and stay away from sites like these, not to mention one where you've been active for a year and a half.

If you pulled your head out of your ass, you'd know that females are closing the gap between gender differences in game players to where it'll be an even split before we know it. Combine this with the fact that most females aren't as physically capable as males are, along with the gender differences in brain function and you've got a pretty solid foundation to build arguments on why girls don't play as much as guys.

They may not want to hear it, but women really do have different brain structures that cause them to think differently. That's not to say men are totally superior, but really anything I'd have to say about that wouldn't be relevant to the discussion at hand.

I'm all about fair opportunities for people with the right skills and credentials, but in reality, society has only CREATED equality, and you can say or believe what you want but science has proved time and time again that males and females are very different. The only women who would argue this are the ones who are too stupid or myopic to realize it, and the only men that would gloat about it are those who will wallow in their insecurities probably for the rest of their lives.

Except Drew cuz i no him and he aint liek dat <3

wtf?
how come you always see guys do stupid stuff, but almost never see girls do it?
for example, i was at summer camp and we were in the quad (the soccer field). we saw this group of guys huddled in the center of the field, then my friends and i saw them do what looked like masturbating, in a group. then all the guys started running as fast as they could from the group, while some stayed behind rolling around on the grass and holding their dicks, yelping in pain.
the other guys ran and hopped the wooden gate that divided the quad from the dorms, and a few of them tripped on the way there because they were running so fast.

a few hours later we had to sit through a lecture (girls included) about "disturbing behavior", like why someone would put ICY HOT on their balls.
why is it we never hear of girls doing that stuff? and no, it's not because we don't have balls.

EDIT: and if our brains are so small, "female brain size is that of walnut" sounds like it has a grammatical error somewhere in there.

Not to mention "what are you talking about men are superior." Ahah.

But I digress. Yes, men and women are wired differently and because of that, we tend to excell in different things. Like how women tend to be better at language and reading expressions, while men tend to be better at math and reading maps. But the difference is not so drastic that it renders an entire sex incapable of doing math, writing, or playing sports. You need to consider each person as an individual, not as someone limited by the steriotypes that go with their gender. Just because I'm female doesn't mean I can't do things that are socially accepted as being "for men." I'm a computer science major. Sure only 10% of the people taking my courses are female, but that doesn't stop me from being at the top of my class.

exactly. just like how boys are more driven to get dirty and play in mud and stuff, so they're more ready to get dirty playing football.that's just how they are. it's their testosterone.i don't know how that works for the DDR thing, though.

It's not that only guys do stupid things. We just do different stupid things. All the girls I know get way to wrapped up in high school drama. And they all act like stupid people. I notice way more girls pretending to be stupid than guys.

Okay, back on topic!
I honestly don't think it's a possible physical inferiority to guys that makes less girls play DDR. I mean, blacks are gentically superior when it comes to physical activity, but white players (who, from what I can see, make up the majority of the DDR community) don't let that stop them.
I think it's social restraints holding girls back. In our media, females are portrayed as flawless and attractive, whereas it's forgivable for males to be silly and unattractive sometimes. Stomping around on a metal pad, arms flailing and sweat flying everywhere? Probably more acceptable for a guy.
