I like to wear TEVA sandals, they are quite comfy for walking around and stuff, but I do NOT recommend for playing anything even remotely fast or jumpy. (been there, done that, dang near sprained an ankle!)
If there is even a remote chance I'll end up somewhere there's a DDR or ITG, I have to plan ahead and wear my ASICS running shoes

Nike Free Trainer's 7.0. The things on the bottom are starting to peel on my new pair that I got about a month ago so I'm pretty pissed with that. I'm probably going to move onto Pumas because I think Nike Frees are pretty much BS now. _________________

I play with new shoes at the arcade because I don't want to mutilate my feet there. At home I never play barefoot but I don't wear shoes either so I just play with my socks at home. |

By etneis, do you mean "Etnies"? I used to wear Etnies as my main DDR shoe, and they were awesome. |

Socks do it for me. I wear K Swiss but wearing shoes in general just slows me down. I don't go to the arcade much and the machine sucked there so I didn't do to well. I might get Nikes for DDR soon. Apparantly they're pretty good. |

I definitely wouldn't recommend playing without shoes. O.o
My friend was playing DDR barefoot.. Her foot hit one of the screws and her toe pretty much exploded with blood.. and she was only playing standard! Playing barefoot is pretty dangerous, imo. (Plus, I like the extra weight shoes give me - helps the steps register on stomp pads. ) |

I play in Nike Free 5.0 v2
before that I played in skate shoes
Nike Frees are so much better for ITG and harder DDR songs, and my easier DDR scores weren't any worse after getting them. |

Playing barefoot is where it's at Nick.

Vans are good for DDR. I salute you for wearing them.
EDIT:
Found this a few pages back, and wanted to reply to it. Hispanic Guy wrote: | Any type of pad that isn't metal is garbage/waste of money. |
You obviously don't know anything. I have played on good soft pads, and bad metal pads. I passed my first 10 on an Ignition, and I've failed Cutie Chaser on a friend's metal pad (though I suspect it was dying). Some soft pads are really good, and some metal pads suck big fat cock. So you should seriously try to know what you're talking about next time. |

I only play in my socks. I tried a few times with my shoes (some no name cheap shoes that I don't care what happens too...not gonna destroy my good shoes playing DDR ) but I found that my feet were too heavy. I normally step very lightly on the pads, be it soft or metal, and so the more weight on my feet, the worse I play. Although I don't play barefoot because socks provide more slide, but not as much as sweating feet (which cause you to flip...literally). Also socks do help with the screws...the sock gets pushed back if its not a perfect fit so you can move your foot before it hits the screw. |
