So I've ordered ITG PS2 and I should get it later this week. Any special tips I should know since I've never played it before? I've played DDR but am a little hesitant about ITG. I've read the sticky but was wondering if anyone had anything to add.
Thanks. |

well, make sure you turn off corner buttons (select the option that says dance pad, not controller)
besides that, there isn't much else you need to worry about. =] |

Ok for like the fourth time. You can ready faster in itg than ddr. So if you can read3x on songs 120to140 bpm you should be able to 4x it easier. _________________

It's not that significant. :x Unless he suddenly switches to hallway. You can generally stick to the same speed mods as you have (unless you use a different perspective or mini). |

No one mentions MINES or HANDS?
You'll see some round objects with a red center... AVOID THEM
Hands are well... arrows you are supposed to hit with your hands. |

yeah it is that significant. its the same reason i've heard people say that supernova needs a X4(and i agree)- that open screen(notice how 5th mix-extreme had the boarders on the top and bottom) gives you more time to read. its why people X1.5 vertex but have trouble with max.(period) on X1. |

Don't return to the middle. (lawl)
Heh, don't be suprised when you see these quality made stepcharts (no autogen! )
Hallway is the default scroll. For regular scrolling use Overhead.
You might need to experiment using different speedmods. _________________

Pretty much everything they said, but I'll add the fact that rating is a little different. Just because you can do heavy on DDR doesn't mean you should start with expert on ITG, so be ready! _________________

It all has to do with the boarders and (IMO) the arrow colors. The boarder makes a smaller space for you to see the arrows on SOME of the ddrs, SuperNova doesn't have the boarder, so it isn't harder to read. Also, for me, the arrow color tells me what denomination the note is, so i don't have to think as much about upcoming rythms.
Things to prepare for:
-Mines
-Hands
-New perspectives (hallway, incoming, etc...)(Stick with "overhead" for DDR style)
-New adjustment to speed mods
-MORE speed mods (like 2.5x, which is very helpful)
-MANY MORE mods, just in general. You can make the notes do crazy things...like spin in circles! (dizzy)
-The arrows. They look A LOT different! The colors are important though, instead of the flashy-seizure arrows in DDR, the arrows are color coded in ITG. Dont freak when a new colored arrow appears! If you play an instrument or something of the like, the red notes are quarter notes, blue are 8th notes, green are 16ths, orange are 32nds, and most importantly, purple arrows are triplets.
-The Expert Difficulty. Most DDR songs go to Heavy difficulty. That is the equivalent of "Hard" on ITG. Expert contains songs MUCH harder than ANY ddr song.
-The difficulty scale. Yea, ddr goes to 10...ITG goes to 12...A 10 in DDR is ABOUT the equivalent of a 10 in ITG...so if you cant do a 10 in ddr, dont try an 11. They are REALLY hard comparatively. Also, there is one 13 (!) in ITG PS2. Dont attempt it untill you are REALLY good.
-The length of the songs. They are about 30 seconds longer than DDR songs, so a bit more stamina is needed to pass songs on ITG. This kind of equates to them being "harder" songs.
-Instead of "perfect" (and marvellous) on ddr there is "excellent" (and "fantastic").
-Scores. An "A" in ddr is NOT an "A" in ITG. ITG scores go by a percentage of how perfect your attempt was. Your letter grade depends on percentage, not how many excellents/fantastics you get.
Hope that covers most of your questions! Good luck with playing!

i think some clarification needs to be made. expert doesnt ONLY contain songs harder than those in ddr. if kiss me red is harder than FELM oni(hell, if infection is harder than FELM oni) then something is wrong.
you cant compare ITGs 11+s to DDRs 10s. you just cant, its a different grading scale. thats why guideca and the game have the same kinds of step patterns and giudecca is a 10 while the game is a 9. there are also 10s in ddr that can rival some 12s(FELM oni comes to mind again, also HDV oni). not that i think DDR should start changing ratings, DDR should stay 1-10 IMO, but its true.
also, if your excellents and fantastics reflect your percentage, how dont they determine your "letter" grade? |

Ultra-lol, yea, i meant OMG 13 footer, =) forgot that "!" (bang) was a song! =P
Saibot-lol, i was just making a simplified guide, if you get into the nitty-gritty, then yes, some of those things are not 100% true, but for the most part, they are good guidelines.
As for the letter grade, qetting one miss can instantly cause your grade to drop to an A in ddr, depending on what game. And that means if you get all perfects, and one miss, your grade dropped from a "AAA" to an "A"...BIG difference. In ITG, you can still get, say, a tristar with a miss...AND a great or two, as long as the rest of the song was almost flawless. In ddr FCing a song affects your grade, in ITG, it doesn't. _________________

the only thing that got me was HALLWAY.
TURN THE MOD FROM HALLWAY TO OVERHEAD.
hallway will screw you over if you are accustomed to DDR. _________________

I find it just as hard to read that fast on ITG than DDR. The end of Vertex is no easier to read than Faxx 1.5x, of course that's just my opinion. |

vertex is 618bpm at the end IIRC.
FAXX x1.5 is 600bpm at the end.
you're just splitting hairs. |

Yeah, I'm about to get the game myself (should come in soon)
I find that a lot of the DDR 10's would be 11's and 12's in ITG terms. One thing you have to get used to is mines. Don't step on them or have your foot on the same arrow as a mine or you're screwed. |

Odd, i think that most DDR 10's are more along the level of a 10 on ITG. However thats just me and everyone thinks about them differently _________________
