Okay, so I'm looking for a good metal pad, since the one I got from MyMyBox was defective. I'm thinking of either getting a Cobalt Flux or a RedOctane Afterburner. Thing is, some people say Afterburners and Fluxes suck, others say they are both the best pads in the world. I'm just really confused. Should I go with the Flux, or should I get the Afterburner? I need answers from owners of either pad. |

Hey guys! I'm pretty new to this site (and DDR) but I've read a lot of stuff on the pads and mods before I posted this! So now I shall post my Qs.
First off I broke my pad that came with SN. (Down arrow doesn't work at all anymore.) I've been playing for 3 months. I'm somewhere between Standard and Heavy and can do 7 or 8 footers and some 9. What I'm wondering is what way I should go for a new pad. At the game stop in my town I have 2 options, el cheapo $20 softpad or RO Ignition v3.0 for $50 (it's on sale).
Now the prob that I have is this (and this is REALLY weird): I can't play without shoes really. Let me explain why... my left leg is 3/4 of an inch shorter than my right leg. So I have to have inserts put in the sole of my shoes. So if I play DDR barefoot (or sock foot) my right knee and my left hip REALLY start aching. So what I'm wondering is, if I mod a soft pad or the RO pad will either of them last if I use sneakers on them?
I tried an idea that my mom had. I wear a really thick (about 3/4 of an inch) flip flop when I'm barefoot. So what my mom told me to do was get a bigger sock and pull it over my flip flop. Well I tried that today and it worked okay. The problem is my left calf hurt A LOT when I got done. I don't know if it's because my flip flop is so worn that it's not 3/4 of an inch anymore or if it's cause I'm now using the leg more or using different muscles OR if I'm using my toes to grip the flip flop. It also feels weird cause it's too big for my foot. So if I play that way I'll have to get a new one and trim it.
And does it hurt your feet to play on a modded softpad? i.e. with it attatched to a board.
So basically what I'm asking is:
Should I get a soft pad and mod it? Or the RO and mod it?
Would either hold up using sneakers? If so how long?
Thanks for listening to the n00b.

soft pad mods can't handle shoes at all (at least mine). i'm not sure about the RO pad (shoes-wise), but you should definately go for it. $50 is a good deal for it. (but you might want to listen to people with more experience with these.)
try stuffing a sock?? _________________

Yeah, get the RedOctane Ignition 3.0 pad. That's a great pad and $50 is an amazing price for it new.
Normally it's like $80 to $100 or so. Pads that are a lot worse can cost a lot more than it.
I'd say it's the best pad you can get for the money. _________________

BTW. I feel like adding my personal comments about the cobalt flux.
I just received mine(5/10/07).
And contrary to popular belief, it works fine. More than fine... it works perfectly. |

Here's my situation, I want to spend about 200 bucks (I can go higher but it needs to be worth it.) It should be higher quality (I'm not expecting a truck run over it but I've kinda bloated up to 280 pounds again) I'm likely going to want to play it with shoes.
I have this pad BNS Metal pad about 2 years ago, a couple moves happened and it appears to no longer work, some of the rubber over the wires have come off, if I play for any length of time my EMS converters act odd I've cleaned it and no improvements. It sounds like something with the power it draws, and if there's a better converter for that let me know. I'm trying to use it on the PC.
So far I think the two front runners for my buckage is the BNS fusion pad and the Afterburner. The afterburner is more expensive than the fusion but is it worth the extra hundred?
Here's a couple things that would be beneficial to me (either from a converter or from the pad).
- The pad must be flat and reasonably light. I want to stack it against the wall. It doesn't have to weigh nothing, but nothing that weights 100 pounds if possible.
- The pad should be responsive, I modified my last pad for this with picture instructions, I can do it again, but that cost would be involved.
- The pad must be as realistic to the arcade as it can be. extra buttons aren't a problem and are enjoyed.
- The pad needs to be able to be connected to the PC likely through a converter, this is how I'll use it most of the time.
- The pad could be connected to the 360 (this is a wish) so I could play the DDR games on the 360.
Any opinions on this? I'll have a while to decide I'm waiting on a third BNS converter (both of the BNS converters are acting differently.) |

Okay, so I decided to get either a BlueShark or a TX-6000. The TX-6000 is cheaper, but I don't know if it's any good. I also hear that the BlueShark is one of the best pads on the market. but MMB's customer service is horrible. Should I get a BlueShark or the TX-6000? |

Any comments on my conundrum, I know there's a lot of factors but I've been puzzling this over for a while. |

Forgive me if this exact question has been asked before:
Used to be a really big DDR player, now it's more of a game I play for fun. I have used many pads over the years. Recently I have been using a Cobalt Flux (mmmm) but since the schoolyear is over my friend who was borrowing it to me took it back to North Dakota. The pad I had been using before (official konami soft pad, the $40 one...) shorted out. So now I need a new one.
I play on heavy, 10 footers. So I need a pad that will work well (that's why I swore by the official konami one... it may be a soft pad but it is definitely NOT a cheap 3rd party soft pad), but I don't have enough money to buy a hard pad (although I should be using one at my skill level).
I am thinking of just getting the Red Octane soft pad, but if that isn't the right decision let me know!! I would just get my official konami pad but as far as I know they don't sell them anymore (except bundled with supernova, which I don't need to buy again). _________________

Well, I really, REALLY don't want to deal with MMB's customer service of doom. Oh well, I guess I'll just get what you guys say is best. |

Just an update on my issues, though it doesn't look like anyone is paying attention to it.
BNS shipped me a non working pad, and will not respond to my email. I've already contacted the credit card company. For 180 dollars I'm disappointed.
What's the best pad I can get for around 200, come on, I need some idea of what I'm going to get. |

If you can't build, you can downgrade and stick to cheap pads (don't spend $200 on a tx-1000, AB, or Nexen, they have terrible history), wait for us to get running with DTG, or save up for a CF or BS. _________________

What's a BS? I'm probably going with a Cobalt Flux, are those really worth the 300? I've heard yes from almost everyone but I want to make sure they are still at the high quality mark. |
