Hey guys, I'm on my Dad's computer right now.

Anyway, I sort of finished the pad on Friday.
I plugged it in to my PS2, and played some easy songs.
I didn't AAA them, and I got a pad miss, so I'm gonna touch up some things.

From about a week ago:

Yeah, I really put in a few hundred hours of my life into a joke that would probably get me killed.

Dr.DDR, should I start on your pads when I get home, or should I make sure the prototype is perfect first?
I need to get some lock washers, which I'll do as soon as I have the chance, which might be as soon as Tuesday, or as late as next Saturday.

Guys, this poopy is not phantomware, and this isn't a joke. This will be just as good for me as it will be for everyone else here when the ball gets rolling, but it's really huge bar to start rolling, especially when you've got 3 hours of homework (fuggin' AP crap), 8 hours of school, 7 hours of sleep, and an hour of dishes to do every day, on top of, you know, a life.

As of summer, I will have an additional 11 hours free EVERY DAY.
If you don't start seeing this going strong by midsummer, that's when you can start worrying.

You're right. The guy who was behind the Beat Gear pads actually had a site with pictures and the whole 9 for his pads before it ended in complete disaster.

I'm getting some new pics/vids right now.

The pad's back in my workspace, ready for some touching up. I still need to figure out a way to solder the male plugs to the panels without them coming off after a while; I might try drilling holes in them and the panel contact, sticking a little piece of wire through the hole, then soldering that.

Also, I am really sorry the site's not up yet. I don't know my way around making a sight, and Matt doesn't want to start it until we have a chance to sit down and put it together precisely as we want it.

Hopefully, I'll get a chance to upload photos and pics from today before I go to bed, but I might not.

Hopefully I haven't missed anything; I'm going to go get working now; I'll try to be on again w/ pics tonight.

So, I did what I was gonna do, and it didn't quite solve all the problems.

The up and down arrows are spastic. It looks like I'm gonna have to work out a way to make foam rings to go around where the screws are. If someone knows where I could buy some of these, I'd really like to know.

Here's a score:
Look to the Sky (Heavy) - DDRMAX CS

0240 Perfect
0023 Great
0006 Good
0012 Almost
0006 Boo
0000 O.K.

0043 Max Combo

058044795 Score

Until I can get less than 4 greats FC on this 3 times in a row, the DT600 core model will not be ready for sale. I'll test it out on HVAM after it's shown that it can FC a 7, and MaxX Unlimited once I've SDG'd a 9 on it.

In the mean time, I think I'm going to get started on the DT610 and DT200 prototypes; I expect to see a much more acceptable result from those models.

Glad to see you're still with us Tofu - keep up the hard work, it'll pay off in the end!

Meanwhile, you said you're experiencing some trouble with the website - perhaps I could make you a message board while you wait for the main site?

is 'boo' the same as a miss?

I was introduced to dance games through itg, and when i tried to get into ddr recently I was unimpressed with it because all the songs were too easy except a select few. So i don't really know anything about the scoring system.

Yeah. In old US home versions, the scoring is "Perf>Great>Good>Almost>Boo", while the Japanese versions were all "Perf>Great>Good>Boo>Miss". It's 'cause 'mericans can't handle criticism. E15.gif

Oh yeah, I drew some pretty pictures.

Wow, looks like you've put in a lot of thought about the DT200. The sensors look great. Why use Plexiglas for the arrows though? It seems like polycarbonate would be a better choice since it doesn't crack nearly as easily. I may be wrong, though. I don't know much about building dance mats.

if you look closely he is using polycarbonate (lexan)... he's just using 1/2" plexi in the lighting layer next to the cathodes.

I was actually wondering if he could make a PIU pad too, and he said since it's basically the same as a DDR pad (sensors and everything), that it'd be really easy. =P

Actually, I've been looking into revamping the design for PIU.
I'll get some concept prints for those at some point.

And yes, as idConstruct pointed out, the Plexiglas is only for the lighting layer, because that layer only takes pressure indirectly, and 1/2" Lexan is really spendy.

I'm not sure why photobucket shrunk them down to different sizes, but if you want the full-sized blueprints, email me and I'll get them to you as soon as I can. =)

btw, I did some touch-up on the pads. I put some foam around the screws, and got 0 ghost steps, but suddenly started getting a billion pad-misses. I think I may have to go back in and redo some of the soldering in the middle, 'cause I think the problem was that the male plugs weren't reaching the female plugs 100% of the time.

I feel like I'm getting really close. The fact that almost all the pad errors this time were misses is actually a good sign; it means that it's a circuitry issue, not a sensor issue.

sounds sweet man E4.gif

and would you mind sending a copy of the prints my way? you know my email address

The prototype sounds like its doing well... I'm seriously thinking of just ditching my plans for a modded dj3, and instead going with a pair of 610's... It'd be cheaper and i would finally be able to try doubles E13.gif ... and of course being able to play multiplayer would be nice.

I think i'd like to cover them in sheet metal to make them look better, but i'm not too concerned about that... it will give me experience building them too, which will be good if I end up distributing.

keep it up E13.gif

Ah, I didn't read the bit about the plexi being only for the lighting. I very well may end up buying a doubles setup of this mat.

so will each pad come with a complimentary forklift? concrete is roughly 150 lbs per cubic foot so you're looking at least 100 lbs and change for that layer alone.
