|
|
Well, I was looking around a bit and I didn't find a place for soft pad mods... if i somehow missed it link me otherwise help me here...
I want to do a soft pad mod since i think it is much cheaper then the metal pad that i bought since I hate breaking things open and realize that i can't return it anymore hehehe... Plus my friends soft pad which is a Gamestop brand pad is forsome reason really good and sensitive.. I really liked it but it is soft so I just want to mod it with something hard under and for it not to move as much. Any ideas? _________________

search the forums, many people just use a peice of wood and some plastic sheet wrap stuff to hold it down
i did it on mine, but i hate soft pads, so its long gone now _________________

It turned out pretty well.
I used little cork circles (supposed to be used on chair and stool legs) to prevent slipping (which it will do without them). Also, the raised arrows improve scores
edit: sry bout double post combine? |

BEFORE you go out and make a softpad mod...if you play anything OVER 7's dont waste your time, mines is a week old and i have major ghost step issues. |

you might've done it too tight, unless it's a GameStop pad or a RO softpad, i don't really know the quality, so i'd try one of those.
My modded RO softpad can handle 11's and 12's with ease, then get SDG's on DDR. and that's with flatfooting. trust me, it'll be just fine. (although, if you are experiencing some pad errors currently, you might want a new pad before modding.) _________________

More difficult than the standard soft pad mod, but im guessing it will be better in the long run. Found the link a while back was thinking of modding one of my pads but i ended up buying a metal pad instead. |

I made a soft pad modding tutorial a long time ago, but there are still mistakes in it. Here it is if you want to take a look. _________________

13en How long does yours last? and will it be hard to change the pad if it craps out on you?
MaxX I like how simple it is but does not seem very protective. But either way that save a lot of money for your way GJ! _________________

Tranzworld, it honestly depends on the softpad, and if you mod them correctly. I passed 10's on my modded softpads. |

the mod itself is holding up good. my pad is really screwy but i think that is only because i used my softpad that is old (the one i got with supernova soon after it first game out)
if the pad messes up, it will be pretty hard to get to it because the vynal is stapled on it.
but all in all it is pretty good. |

This looks pretty interesting. I have an Ignition 3.0 that is pretty awful, does anybody know more about this mod? It looks promising. _________________

Can you put foam in between the plywood and dance mat and make it so its like a insert(ignition) |

hmmm. it would seem a lot harder to get decent footspeed with that, and it seems a bit hard to mod, but i don't see why not. (although it could ruin the life of the pad.)
I really don't know though, i have foam inserts from my old foampad, but i don't want to try it.
well, i went to Lowes and got a giant 71"x38" chunk of plywood today. it took me about 3 hours, but i modded both of my RO softpads to it.
I <3 doubles (itg doubles, DDR doubles is too wierd, ITG feels more natural)
and with the old plywood, i modded my PIU pad, so now i can actually play PIU.
for anyone who cares, i pretty much did the mod from the FAQ section.
here's my version of it (what i did): Quote: | materials:
plywood (a little more than 2 pads worth)--- $23
plastic window covering (to shield rooms from winter)--- $12
very good tape (the window covering included good masking tape)
try to find really good masking tape or duct tape--- < $7
scissors
for plywood, i strongly reccomend at least 3/4" thick. 1" is good too, but i use 3/4.
the window covering seems really weak, but it's actually never ripped from gameplay. after modding 6 dancepads (1 for a friend, 3 of mine today, one of mine twice) and covering 2 windows, i still have quite a bit left.
directions:
1) tape dancepad to plywood (optional, but it helps keep it in place)
2) cover dancepad in window covering/other plastic (it might not be big enough, so you might have to use 2 pieces) make sure it goes down every side of the plywood.
***make sure you cut a space out for the cord.
3) tape window covering to plywood (may take multiple pieces)
***make sure you can't pinch any of the window covering once you're done, as it will be very aggrivating trying to play. you might use a lot of tape doing this, but it's worth it***
4) test it out! if you have new errors, you might've either taped the arrow or made the window covering too tight. | i guess i'll make a more detailed FAQ with pictures. (maybe a video??) some time soon, while it's fresh in my mind. _________________

Hmm. Does anyone think sanding the plywood smooth and then putting a finish at all? Cause i think it would look pretty nice if it is done like that. _________________

Could i duck tape my pad to a piece of espinite? I'm not sure if espinite is strong enough and my pad is starting to rip so I'm ganna use duck tape so I can take the pad off once it dies? Is this a good idea? |
