Well, last year's result *was* a best-case scenario; Broadjam had said all along that there were no guarantees of anyone winning. _________________

Well, that feels astoundingly lame. I mean, he got the e-mail less than 3 days after the submissions were closed. _________________

Corporation is corporation. And, DDR is a sad, sad, sad thing these days. Progression is an illusion; they only care about the money. Why be surprised when it's a company as large and influential as Konami. They're no Harmonix.
Enjoying music ought to be about what music is about. Music is supposed to bring people together. However, most hardcore fans of DDR only want techno/trance/J-Pop music to bring together ravers, synth-heads, and sheep.
Masaya Matsuura can't be impressed. |

In other words, you mean, dance music? Heaven forbid, on a dancing game, no less!
I realize there's more genres to which people dance, but honestly, there's only so far one can push "club beats" before they become out of place and silly. Hell, DDR already pushes the bounds to the extreme with strange material (for a dance game, at least) like TIERRA BUENA, Ska Ska No. 3, and The least 100sec. _________________

Sure, that's the most popular music among Didderers, but the range of music people can easily dance to is broader than you think. Konami HAS been trying to reach all ends of that spectrum. _________________

LOL! I don't even have to say a thing.
But, I am not talking about the span of their games. Not a whole lot of players, especially casual players, own a console port... let alone multiple editions. Now, comparing the breadth of all ports does put a dent in my case. However, the experience of playing "the" game, of one game, is what I am talking about. 60-80 songs is a lot of songs. They can do much better for variety within a single game... much, much, better.
Also, I don't understand why so many of you posters get so defensive. Like, it's your job to shut down anyone who questions anything here? I'm not saying to take anything out or stop any particular inclusion in these games. All I said was that one or two songs that could jump the boundaries without hesitation would be nice.
BTW/Fall Out Boy was not put in the game to add diversity to the dancing experience. Get real. |

While a diverse tracklist would attract more players, most people wouldn't care to play some of the songs. A great game for few is better than an average game for the mass. _________________

I cannot even believe that you just said that. I think... that is the saddest thing that I have ever heard a young person say. How elitist can you get? And this is exactly the mentality that makes games (and the world) the s--t that they (so often) are today!

You're right, the only kind of game that should ever be released is a standard Mario-style platformer.
Because if anyone likes first-person shooters, sports games, music games, trivia games, RPGs, action games, or any sort of puzzle games are too specialized and are way too elitist. _________________

It's just that DDR would get boring if you played the same songs over and over and some people might feel like they're wasting their money on a game they're not interested in. Specialized games are usually better reviewed. _________________

Sarcasm is a super defense on your part. Point & example.
Try to relax. It is possible to satisfy a greater majority. You could complain about video game producers disappointing you, but then you'd contradict yourself by encouraging them to stay safe. Also, "Grand Theft Auto"... right?
By your logic, that game would have never been made. The game was a diversified, action, experience. "Vice City" was even more egalitarian. The radio, the outfits, the mini-games, the comedy...
I say, take something good, and share it. WITH EVERYONE. Yeah, not everyone is gonna' like it. But, let them try! Don't change the formula beyond recognition, don't take things away. Just add in some foreign elements that don't detract from the experience.
Why would "DDR" be less enjoyable with a[n authentic] jazz song in it? With a [classic] big band song in it? With some [true] disco in it? Danceable, fun, playful. And... DIFFERENT. Meaning: more fans, more money, a greater audience, more hosts online, more competitions. All that you are being by denying the merit of all of this is an elitist.
They haven't been trying that hard, as some of you say. Their hand has been forced by sales forecasts.
BTW/reviews don't equal good games. Sheep? |

Er...SuperNOVA has Funkytown and Let's Dance. What point are you trying to make? Right now, you're not making any sense at all. _________________

If I'm being elitist, then so are players of SSBM, GTA, Halo, etc. I believe the proper term you are looking for is committed. _________________

I don't know about you, but if Strawberry Shortcake DDR had sex with Supernova 2, it would kind of be annoying as hell. _________________

Hey, congratulations to Saxxonpike and Beatdrop for their wins, although I still think that it's unfair that Beatdrop won only 3 days after submissions were closed, and I doubt Konami listened to all the entries before making its decision.
Still, "Until Forever" and "EternuS" are good songs, so congrats. But I'm coming for you next year, if I like Konami enough to participate. _________________

"Committed" is a good word. And, if you guys could just see past your own boundaries, you would be likely to (at least) see what I am saying. The evidence is even in the wins for this year. Compare them to last year's and think. "Sheep", like I said; that's a good coupler.
"Committed sheep": sums up what most diehard "DDR" fans are.
Hey... who feels like bashing "ITG"...? Oh - wait!! Konami owns the franchise now! We love Konami... no matter what.
And how's that for sarcasm?
By the way (again), you also missed my point COMPLETELY in my bringing up of "GTA". Can't stress enough... think, again, if you must.
What I said - *sigh* - is that "Grand Theft Auto" incorporated a hell of a lot more than just shooting, just gangsters, just T&A, just "the game". Rockstar was quite clever in rounding it out with additions that other players could sink their teeth into. None of this took away from the core. None of this changed what those elitists that you mentioned could have complained for. More is not less, when it gets done right.
"Let's Dance" is not disco. I thought that "Funkytown" was in an earlier game, but it's a lousy example anyway. Luxoflux's in-house did a better job of creating disco for "Vigilante 8". |
